I always thought that it was a free kick to the player who laid the tackle. I noticed a tackle laid on Chad Fletcher today that happened exactly like the above but it was deemed play on. If a player doesn't dispose the ball properly isn't it a free kick? Or has that changed?

I miss a lot of the spontaneity in the game - the biggest one is players now centre the ball rather than go for goal. So many times I want that player to pull off an amazing shot only to see it go to a pack of players in the centre square.
