"The Western Bulldogs fixture requests for 2005 can be summarised as:
1Two Interstate ‘home’ games.
2.Maximise FTA exposure by replicating the current AFL Match Scheduling policy for both Home & Away Games by providing 2 Friday night home games and a maximum of 8 Sunday Home & Away games...
From today's Herald Sun:
THE Western Bulldogs are still holding tightly to their No. 6 draft pick despite the Cats desperately looking for early choices to satisfy Richmond on Brad Ottens.
"We've had a couple of clubs contact us, but it's off-limits at the moment," Bulldogs coach Rodney...
And for what it's worth, here's how our draw's shaping up (according to a few media/website leaks):

R3 RICHMOND TELSTRA DOME HOME
R4 WEST COAST SUBIACO AWAY

Agree that there's absolutely no (reasonable) logic behind it.
The Darwin game will bring the same financial return irrespective of whether we play Carlton, Freo...
Here's Patrick Smith's article from the Australian:
Bulldogs move up in world with their lavish new digs
September 24, 2004
WESTERN BULLDOGS chief executive Campbell Rose presented AFL heavy Andrew Demetriou with his idea to raise $19.5million to rebuild the Whitten Oval in early July...
I'm pretty sure that the club will have almost full control over the whole precinct.
Medical facilities and office space can be leased out to private operators.
The gym will be open to the public, and if the only other gym in the suburb is shut down (as planned), you're looking at this...
I see it more along the lines of a ridiculous version of the low income rebate – something like the government saying: Earn less than $20,000 and well give you a $10,000 handout, earn a cent over $20,000 and you’ll get zilch. Come June 30, having earned $19,980 for the year, would you go to work...
Big believer in keeping early picks, but this is going overboard.
With Judd you're almost guaranteed 10 years of elite footy from a top 5 in the comp player - why would you prefer somebody that has (at a guess) only a 10% chance of having a similar career?

I think that's part of the appeal. No 'personalities', no pretentious bullshlt, just a few mates having a laugh about sports and stuff - personally I reckon it's SEN's best show.
Ditto and ditto.
Reading the drafts board, there's apparently a superstar tall or two available in the top 5. I reckon they'd do a lot more for our on-field (and off-field) fortunes over the next decade than 3 or 4 additional wins this year.
I think Phil Smart (Freo) has been the standout recruiter in the comp over the past four or five years. I rate Clayton among the next group, alongside Wells (Geelong), Stibbard (North) and Beveridge (Saints).
Rohde, Ching.
The link I posted refers to the pick 6 + Alvey for Bolton trade...
Re: Re: Re: I am sorry Scott I got it wrong
I'm sure blokes like Wheelan and O'keefe instead of Gia and Hahn would have us fighting for a top 4 spot.
No recruiter in the past 20 years has come out of a draft with 'absolute success'. With at least one or two picks, you can always find a...
Every recruiter in the business has missed opportunities, and most have at least a handful of shockers on their CV.
Clayton has as many, and in the majority of cases, more runs on the board than 14 rival recruiters. You’ve started a dozen threads bagging him over the past couple few months …...
Have a look at their draft positions - the only way to have picked up Green, Wheatley or Guerra would be to have selected one of them at 13 - if you think passing on Murphy for one of them is good recruiting, you're a dingbat.
You have a habit of glorifying opposition players - if the tables...
Don't know about Richmond, but the Keepers Arms in North Melbourne is showing every match live, and given that there's nothing on during the day, it's odds on that they'd be screening a replay or two.
Even if they're not, they've got a few TV's in there, so I'd be confident that if he asked...
3 first year draftees replacing their spots on the list will cost about $200K. Closer to $300K if they play a few matches.
So that leaves about $200-250K. Resign a couple of players, trade for some middle of the road plodder, factor in back-ended contracts ... all gone.
As Borgsta pointed out, Travis Johnstone at Pick 1. In the same draft as Ottens, Tarrant, Nick Stevens, Luke Power and Simon Black (both recruited by Clayton).
In Sam Power's draft: Luke Molan at Pick 9, Aaron Rogers at 26. Both delisted within 2 years.
The club invited Stevens and him manager to the Whitten Oval for discussions about crossing over during trade week - would they have done that if there was no chance of being able to afford his salary?
Agree fully with the void in the 23-27 year olds - disagree with the way of going about...
That the Veale deal will cost us in the long term, but Clayton is excellent at selecting talent in the draft? How does one effect the other?
If you don't agree with what I'm saying, feel free to put forward a valid point on either topic whenever you feel like it, JG.
We have the worst group of 23-27 year olds in the league. This is where the core and matchwinners lie in most teams, and the lack of talent in that age group can be directly attributed to the club drafting and trading like shlt between 94-98 (Kleiman).
If you look at Clayton's picks, in the...
It was always a genuine possibility. Talk had started on Thursday that a deal was looking unlikely, especially after Stevens rejected going to Carlton/Melbourne and therefore destroying Port's best chance of being compensated fairly. Even on the AFL site there were articles more than an hour...
No-one is arguing his quality or value to the team. There's also absolutely no feeling of resentment towards Jade or the other players involved in these trades - they don't dictate what clubs should trade for them; the disappointment is aimed squarely at the footy department, and the thinking...
Which part didn't you quite understand or agree with?
Koops wouldn't be among the top 10 medium-sized defenders in the league, so he's among the 20 or so second-tier half back flankers a class below - hence dime a dozen. Has he not averaged less than 10 games a season in the last 9 years...
The survival of the club is how I'm looking at it Borgsta.
With the TV rights deal in mind, the onus should be on being as competitive as possible (and standing on our own two feet) come 2006 and beyond. Up until then the AFL will be backing us, and most sponsorship is tied up for at least a...
Re: Re: We were ripped off in Veale deal
I don't think there's any doubt we lost out (unless we win a flag in the next couple of years :)).
The 6th best player in last year's draft will be a 200 gamer, Stevens probably has another 150 games or so in him, Alvey another 50.
With his...
