What have we discovered so far:

1) from the lips of Eade: we will not be very active in the trade this year unless someone throws us a 'godfather' offer.

2) Ottens will NOT be playing at the bulldogs next year

3) Eade is willing in principle to part with a 1st round pick but only for a godfather offer.

Rumour heard from someone in the know, "Bowdo and Robbins maybe looking elswhere due to massive pay cuts they have been given to them for next season"

One would hope that sense may prevail with Robbo at least.

THEY HAVEN'T SIGNED UP YET HAVE THEY????

What's a Godfather deal?

Its an offer that you can't refuse.

Get the movie out "The Godfather". If you refused to deal with the godfather, somebody or something ended up dead.

Remember that guy who refused to sell the casino (at a very reasonable price), to the godfather. The guy had a champion racehorse, that he loved very much. They chopped his horse's head off and snuck into his bed while he was asleep.

He woke up wondering where all of the blood was from. Then horror and screaming as he pulled back the sheets.

Generally these days it refers to an offer that is just too good to refuse.

Actually all picks including priority picks are tradeable. Carlton could have traded their priority pick last year, as could have we or Melbourne.

That's true. Priority picks are tradeable. The first one traded was Freo's to Hawthorn for Trent Croad. The Hawks picked up Luke Hodge.

Why doesn't someone tell the club to target Urch seeing its such a great idea and all...

In all seriousness I believe we should be doing some trades. Our second round pick, for instance, could net us a decent player.

Whitnall, Urch, Sam Hunt, McGrath, Burton... maybe someone will take a second round pick for any of them. We need to be more active in my opinion, there are still holes in our lineup that need to be filled.

Seeing the possibilities for pick 6 seem to be Wood, Eckerman and Monfries - none of whom are exactly what we need - what about trying to get pick 4 from Richmond for pick 6 and Bowden?

Richmond need a young ruck and might want Wood. They would pick up Bowden for nothing and we would have 3 & 4 allowing up to get a KP and the left over of Deludio/Griffin/Tambling.

Bad news... I hate to say it, but I heard Dixon's name linked to our club, from nowhere official though. Surely our club wouldn't sink this low...

But if not Dixon, what recycled tall will we recruit this year?

I think Dixon could be OK. Anything specific that you don't like about him?

I would take Wood at 6. Made a post about it on the draft board a week or so ago. I wouldn't do that upgrade up with Bowden and I doubt Richmond would do it.

If Tambling was picked up before us I wouldn't cry about it. If he came to us then great but I am yet to be convinced that the raves about him are commensurate with performance.

This is the kind of draft that will really test the skill of the recruiter. Making judgements on an even spread of talent is a tough to call.

I can't answer for Rookie but I'll have my say anyway.

Dixon is soft, a show pony, worries about his hair more than he does the footy, brings no particular skills to the club that we don't already have in abundance, doesn't fulfill a positional need that we don't already have in abundance, is not a premiership player, is not the type of player that will advance us towards a premiership, we have greater priorities.

I hear Antoni Grover has been told he is up for trade. Not a bad player and worth giving something fair for but not an early pick. Has a penetrating kick on him and is a reasonable size.
Anybody else keen?

Nah, if we're going to trade for a tall this year, Paul Johnson, Ashley Hansen, and Troy Simmonds would be my bets. We're better off drafting the next possible Brad Miller, Drew Petrie, or Jared Rivers than giving away our picks.

But forget what I've just said. We always recruit a dud tall.

Re: Dixon, I would have jumped at the chance to get him 4-5 years ago, back when he looked like kicking 30+ goals a year as a third tall. And seeing he's done nothing at all since then, despite a move to the back half (where all dud talls end up), and seeing he's closing in on thirty, no way! I'd prefer the biggest smokie from the last pick of the draft than him.

From today's Herald Sun:

THE Western Bulldogs are still holding tightly to their No. 6 draft pick despite the Cats desperately looking for early choices to satisfy Richmond on Brad Ottens.

"We've had a couple of clubs contact us, but it's off-limits at the moment," Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade said yesterday.

The Dogs are running at about 98 per cent of the salary cap, meaning they haven't got room to make a play for Ottens with their prized early draft picks.

Although Lindsay Gilbee has told the club he wants out, he is under contract and the Dogs are keen to hang on to him.

It is understood the Dogs are not interested in Ty Zantuck, possible trade bait for Patrick Bowden, who is out of contract, meaning he can nominate for the pre-season draft and leave Whitten Oval without compensation if he wishes. The Dogs still have Sam Power, Matthew Robbins and Daniel Bandy out of contract. The trio is expected to stay.
