I’m not the biggest Warner hater here but geez it would be nice to be blooding a new opener here and actually getting something out of this series. I suppose the only options aren’t exactly exciting anyway

It would be a good opportunity, with no disrespect it’s a pretty gentle 5 Test home summer to try and get settled into the Australia team.

I guess the biggest thing is all the contenders are guys who have been tried and failed already, so it’s easier to keep Warner in and not rush the replacement. His awful recent form averages about as much as the others did during their stints. I can understand them making the choice they did, and I think Warner will cash in against Pakistan.

I think if an untried player had the form of Bancroft of the past season and a half, or even Renshaw who has dominated the A games and PM game, they might have got a chance.

Yes it would be amazing if every player in history bowled or batted at their absolute peak every single time they were batting or bowling but it’s amazing how seldom a career pans out with such consistency

I’m not convinced he’ll retire.

He read the cards and he was getting dropped for India and England tours, says I’ll retire a year from now and the management say “ok thats fair, we’ll keep you in until then”. Then he makes a zillion runs like always against Pakistan and he reverses his decision. You’ve heard it here first.
