Thank goodness for that! Hopefully it's the last one for years thanks. A competitive summer is so much better. This isn't helped by our curators not producing good wickets. We will all be thankful we are back to India/SA/England after this summer
No we won't.... Again it is India or bust most of the time. We will smash England again and most likely smash the current SA test team. And the same people will be whining again.

I don't mind Pakistan so much, but why the hell are we playing the woeful Windies 2 summers in a row???
Last year was the end of a cycle of the future tours program. This year is the start of a new cycle. India are touring here next year, we've already played 5 Tests against them this year, we're playing another 5 against them in 2026/27 and they're touring South Africa during our summer so they couldn't come.

We've just finished an Ashes tour so England wasn't coming out.

As mentioned above South Africa are hosting India so they weren't going to give up their summer for the 2nd year in a row to tour here.

We're touring New Zealand after this. They could have played here too during January maybe but the matches wouldn't count for the WTC and we'd still need to find another opponent to make up our 3 home series as part of the WTC.

Zimbabwe, Ireland and Afghanistan don't form part of the WTC so if we played them we'd again need to find another opponent to make up the 3 home series.

So we're left with West Indies, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh and we're already playing Sri Lanka away in this WTC so same problem as NZ.

Looking at the future tours schedule, this will be the last time West Indies tours here until at least 2029/30 at which point Test cricket may be played by 3rd XIs anyway.

Not exactly on topic to what you said but it did remind me that it has been a while since we have had Sri Lanka out, would love to have a summer against them again.

I don't hate Green at the top of the order either, he's solid enough. I feel it's hard to make him open and bowl 20 overs potentially, that would be my only query. No one is still knocking the door down to replace Warner so anything could happen, they could pick someone like Renshaw too.

Smith has always batted weirdly, some days he's not there but can still scratch out a 60, agreed. I remember his knock at the GABBA in 2013 (ish) was weird. Made 30 odd, played and missed, got dropped, smashed a six out of absolutely nowhere and went out stupidly.

Have Green's bowling as a bonus, not as if Cummins uses him anyway much. I'd rather him solidify himself as a batsman forget the bowling we shouldn't really need it anyway, have 3 elite quicks plus Lyon. Marsh can bowl too. How many bowlers do you want?

Extra bowlers gives us options of course, and I think i rate Green's bowling a lot higher than most. He's great when he comes around the wicket to left handers, really seems to make the batsman uncomfortable, sort of like Morkel used to do.

Problem is Cummins refuses to use him correctly. Only time he did was in Melbourne last year.

We always hear the Pakistan are capable of anything crap before they roll out & get slaughtered.
No one is saying that this time and definitely no one was last time, i remember people saying that was the worst team to tour Australia in decades at the time.

We saw this same discussion last year and plenty of years previous and it is just as ridiculous this year.

England and New Zealand are almost never competitive here, yet people don't whine when we play them. Yet if we play Pakistan or the Windies people have an issue with it.
Also ignoring that we are playing NZ this summer, albeit over there. The MCG has been a good test pitch the last few years, the rumblings out of Perth are for some spice too, would be good if people waited until a ball was bowled before determining the state of the pitch.

I'm keen to go to the test match but they are closing off the entire top section of Optus to make the place look more full for tv. So the one place on Earth with the highest rate of skin cancer doesn't allow general admin to sit in the shade. What a f***ing joke.

I think we'll account for Pakistan, but I can see them putting up a fight at times. They have a solid middle order and Shaheen is also a gun, the rest of their attack will leak runs though

The summer begins proper when someone declares the pitch a road sometime before drinks on the first day.

Should have been Bangladesh, who we’ve continually screwed over since they were admitted to test cricket.

I can't believe people are asking to drop Warner before a test series with Pakistan. I mean:

I mean, it's actually funny how much he bullies them.

Australian fans will be just happy we only have 3 tests of him being picked for being Warner. Averaging what 20 the last 2 years in red ball. I always laughed when Broad was bowling to him
Warner averages 27 vs Broad, which for an opening bat facing the seaming ball in England for half the matches isn't actually as bad as people think. He also averages 43 at a strike rate of 121 against Broad in ODI's, which seems to indicate the bunny label goes the other way.
