Any other club Rhys Stanley would be playing in VFL aswell though. It's only cos we are rebuilding he's in team down there and getting games.

Can only play with what you have. Rhys is tall, we need a tall defender. Funnily enough, he ain't that bad either! His worst return was against Cloke who kicked 4 goals from 10 marks

If that's a bad return for a bloke that's played that position at AFL level for only 2 months, then you are a very very tough marker! Cloke often kicks bags on the best defenders in the league

Cloke was a jet at 18. Hawkins wasn't bad.

His mobility is actually quite good for a bloke that's as big as he is. Against the reigning premier Oakleigh Chargers, he often fought off 3 defenders to take a pack mark. He can lead well too.

I wouldn't write off Crouch as an inside midfielder. I rate him higher than Dunstan, but the Dees should be interested.
But surely Melbourne will take Boyd if available?

You've got hit outs & you've got hit outs to advantage, this year i've rarely seen our mids get a great ride with Macca's tapwork.. Still baffled why Macca doesn't get a crack in the forward line, as his contested marking is excellent..This is a hypothetical discussion, & as a long suffering member & supporter i need it. All options & possibilities should be entertained, doesn't mean we'd head down that path though..In response to my initial agreement to the trade, how quick was i to see the value that Macca brings not just to the side, but to the club through other supporter's opinions..!!
Look, I can concede I'm not entirely happy with McEvoy. But hey, it takes 2 to tango, and it takes a ruck AND inside mids to make an effective tap and clearance. Who's Macca meant to be tapping effectively to? There's NOBODY there!

Dawes, Clarke and Hogan though. They need mids.

I hope they pass, and GWS too for the same reason (Cameron, Patton etc). Problem with that idea though is that both Patton and Clark have serious, and niggling, injury issues, and the Giants and Dees may want 'insurance'

Plus, if there's anyone between us and those two by the end of Round 23, they're not passing on Boyd. Especially the Dogs.

Tom Boyd, the Saints will have a goal to goal line for a decade (minus a full back still) if we could pick him up in the draft
FF:- Tom Boyd
CHF:- Spencer White
R:- McEvoy/Hickey
CHB:- Rhys Stanley
FB:- ?????????
Not a bad spine to build a team around

No one can convince me anything in regards to this draft is a certainty. Brodie Grundy was supposedly top 3 all year, so was Daniel Rich, so was Dyson Heppell, so was John Butcher, pretty sure Chad Wingard wasn't expected to slip to 6 either. I'll concede Boyd won't be a Saint if we finish above the Dogs, and right now that is very touch and go. The only saving grace of our terrible matches is the very real possibility we might land a monster.

Will Spencer White have the tank to play further up the ground though? Wasn't he having trouble with his endurance last year in the TAC?

John Butcher is the guy I would target. Big unit who marks the footy like Loewe.

He has been injured for most of his short career and has shown promise.

I'm fairly certain he's contracted so unlikely but worth having a crack.

What would his value be? Milera and pick 22?

Then we could use pick 4 on a gun mid....And get Brown for nothing in the PSD.

Yup, I'm dreaming.

Re-signed not long ago, Hip surgery looks to have him gone backwards guess it'll take time before he can fire again though. Not sure what it would take to get him

Definitely dreaming, was a top 10 pick and chucking Milera in the deal basically downgrades 22 to 25 :p

Aish to GWS is no booby prize though Unc! He is gonna be an absolute star in his own right. Imagine a Nathan Buckley type midfielder...quick, skilful, mature.
Either way, we are gonna get an absolute gun at 3/4

The positions really arent so set any more. The way I see it, in that hypothetical side Boyd leads out or we put the ball on his head, and White goes back with the ball and burns off his man through sheer pace.

Equally I don't see why we couldn't line up like this:

HF:...Curren....Lee*....Minchington.
..........Saad.......White............
FF:...................Boyd...................

*Siposs

It's worth noting that Spencer White was a jet in his school competition despite his asthma issues. Once he fully gets over these problems, he should be a gun.
Jeremy Cameron says hello...

Jeremy Cameron isn't going anywhere. At all. I'd say he's locked and loaded for GWS as much as anyone.

Interesting question you pose however I doubt it will be answered because Boyd surely goes top 2 which would mean we need to consider what type of midfielder we want and need.

Aish and Sheed probably the two most well rounded midfielders with potential for inside outside games....

Kelly and Billings highly skilled outside mids.....

Crouch and Dunstan hard at it inside ball winners.....

I dare say Sheed is that West Aussie kid a lot of clubs overlook and someone (hopefully us) picks him up for a bargain. He has the potential to be the best of the lot.

Yea I guess he would be one of their untouchables. I'm just thinking of a way to bring in a power forward which neither Stanley or White are and I doubt Boyd is available unless in the off chance GWS and Melb skip him and we finish third last.

He's lost currency though, he was living up to his name on the weekend. Not saying it's a fair deal but it's a decent opening offer

apologies, what I mean is to reinforce the point that you make... why would GWS take Boyd when they already have 3 young gun tall forwards? Melbourne on the other hand...

It might be worth us engineering a deal to swap our 1st pick with GWS' first pick. Not sure what else we'd have to offer them unfortunately...
