Why are some people putting Schneiders name up as a draft sweetener for another club.
He has been fantastic but with his age and injury issues no other club would touch him with a ten foot poleo_O
yep retire him. lost all confidence in him after that gold coast game. instead of picking up the ball trying to do a shit little toe poke kick to someone running past was beyond pathetic.

Boyd, as he would compliment the likes of White, Stanley and Lee beautifully and could potentially play the ruck/forward role and allow us to trade any of Stanley/Longer/Hickey, etc, but I highly doubt he'll be ready to play to that level by next year. He is not a Cameron type, being much bigger and so-on.

BTW, Pelchen said we are "committed" to having three picks inside and including our 2nd rounder. "Committed" does not mean "yeah, we wouldn't mind that", it basically means it's happening, one way or another.
Committed to me sounds like they will be doing everything in their power to make it happen without guaranteeing it... Fence sitting?

I was under the impression that he didn't say 3 first round picks each year, but a certain number over 3 years?

In Pelchen's letter to members he said they wanted to increase our activity in the first 3 rounds by 50% over the next few years (2013,14,15 if I recall correctly) but he (or maybe Richo?) has said recently that in this years draft we want 3 inside 21 and 5 over all.

I included him in my hypothetical because GWS might be interested in having him around for his experience (off field as much as on) and we have basically told him that if we get the right trades he wont be offered a contract next year. If we can sneak him into a deal to get him a contract at a club when we otherwise would have delisted him then it's a win/win.

You would think GWS would be nearly over having senior players discarded from other clubs playing for them for only 1 or 2 years before retiring by now.

I think a yr or 2 ago the Giants may have picked up Schneids as a player/off field mentor . Like they did with Luke Power. So i get your point Periphery:thumbsu:
Just think they have moved beyond that now.
Schneids played a couple of really good games last yr. But sadly also a few absolute shockers. But i guess playing as a small forward is tuff enough without being old and in a crap team as well:p
If he plays on next yr it wouldnt surprise me to see him last about half a season before injuries get the better of him. so if we could get anything for him it would be a bonus.
My preference wouldve been for him to retire. He has been a wonderful player for us and i wouldnt want to see a great career end with a season either injured or at Sandy.

They have the space on their list and he wouldn't be expensive so if they still felt like they needed a mentor or something around then why not? After seeing GC turn into a bunch of babies after Ablett went down they might have decided they need to keep some more old men around.

I don't think Schneids will play on with another club or wants to play on with another club personally.

This is always a consideration. He might also hate the thought of moving the NSW for a year.

Fair enough. Everyone thought that Gold Coast were old enough to thrive after Ablett went down and instead they fell in a heap. Obviously Schneids is nowhere near the same level as Ablett but he'd still bring some leadership to the group even when not playing.

If that hypothetical gets done then Schneider will almost certainly not play for the Saints next year. The only reason I can see us keeping him is if we trade someone like Armo or Monty so that he can cover the lost experience.

I understand what are getting at about Schneids bringing leadership. He has good experience and he seems like one of those players who make a footy club a fun place to rock up to 5 or 6 days a week. The fact that he has his 'Schneiderman' segment shows that he maybe took over a bit of Milneys spot as the resident 'lifter of morale' around the club:thumbsu:

Don't you think the Saints still need that with all of the young players we have? I would rather have a player of Schneider's calibre around the club then say for example Siposs.

Was just reading this found it pretty interesting

The Sydney Swans Team will include
7 Ex-Swans Rookies - Harry Cunningham
Heath Grundy
Jake Lloyd...
Mike Pyke
Dane Rampe
Kieren Jack (All-Australian)
Nick Smith (All-Australian)
5 x 30-plus in the draft -
Dan Hannebery (30)
Nick Malceski (64)
Luke Parker (40)
Sam Reid (38)
Adam Goodes (43).
Only Jarrad McVeigh (5), Gary Rohan (6) and Lewis Jetta (14) were Sydney first-round picks.
and
Four players trades from other clubs - Rhyce Shaw, Josh Kennedy, Ted Richards and Ben McGlynn (another ex-rookie)

And if they are not and we don't trade pick #1 - well we get the consolation prize of Petracca, if we want him.

Brayshaw will go at no 2.

GWS can then choose a tall or take a risk with a lower mid.

Ball in GWS court. If they really want Petracca make an overs offer.

if you don't - cool.

That's pretty much what it comes down to Joffababy! ;)

Realistic player values go out the window in these circumstances.

Now if the hot top 10 were all mids, then different scenario. But they are not so if a club wants the one of the best mids then they need either pick 1 or 2.

The club has told Schneider that it will offer him a contract depending on what happens at trade week. I take this to mean that if we trade someone like Armo, Monty, Gilbo etc then we will keep Schneider and if we don't then he is gone. This would seem to be a pretty good indication that the club is happy with our levels of senior players at the club if we lose 1 more this year.

I agree that Schneider could still be an asset to the club, but it seems that he is on the brink of being delisted.

At Sydney it's more about the system than the individual. They have drafted quite well, but all those players thrive because they are, IMO, the team coached best. Some crazy draft steals (Parker was rated top 10 in his draft - Emma Quayle) but the coaching and development system is the benchmark for all the other clubs.

Surely three 1st rounders would have been a target, not a set in stone guarantee.
I would agree, but the odd thing is that he's said it publicly quite a few times and I doubt he would have been so forward about it if he wasn't going to push really hard for it. I'd be very surprised if it didn't happen

Absolutely this. His career is hanging by a thread with us as well, and we're the wooden spooners. I can't see another club wanting him

That is what the pelican said 2 days ago on Sen everyone should listen to it ,he said this year was different to last year so nothing set in stone.
Looking to draft the best player when they can with their picks .Eg Petracca.
this 3 rounders stuff is starting to annoy me because it is the long haul no quick fix .

They need class midfielders & forwards that is where the game is going ,Port Adelaide are completely
different side with Wingard & Wines ,but they also picked up guys like Hombsch cheap .

Other clubs did too think of Taylor , Robertson, Mcstay (
Brisbane ) Langdon. ( Collingwood )

The more type of players they get right through development & rookies the more likely the club will go forward

End of 2015 ......is the moneyball year.

Question- if boyd happens to kick 45+ goals next year and Cameron around the same mark if the club had the choice of one of them who would you guys want?

Id lean more towards Boyd with us already having stanley white and lee. What are you're thoughts? Both could be out of contract come next year.

Jezza Cameron every day of the year

Tom Boyd, he'd save us $500k a year.

Schnieder is also married and had a few kids who I think at least one is old enough to be in school. I really doubt he would uproot his entire family now just to play another year at fledgling club in another city.

Interestingly knightmare said he would take the punt on Petracca over Shiel based on the impact he suspects Petracca will have in the front half.

Call me a harsh prick, but instead of fluffing around with Schneiderman episodes, I'd prefer the boys to be out on the paddock just practicing kicking footballs into a rubbish bin from 30m...

... God knows they need the practise cos they couldn't hit the side of a wheat silo if they tried
