We should look at some failed KPFs and see if any would make good KPDs.
There is bloke down in Tassie, apparently spent a year or two at another club when he was young and let his draft selection number get to him, but has gone back to Tassie and been a great guy, I hear he helps the Grannies from the local age care facility do there shopping on Thursday and is really good with the young kids in his team. Is he the failed KPF you could be thinking of?

I think he goes by the name of Thorpe :)

Higgins is a better player.

Do not get the argument against Higgins.

Jacobs cost a pretty penny and pick #37 and delivered 21 games in 2 seasons of average quality.

Going back further Richardson was pick # 34.

Dal Santo was a fair upgrade on guys like Sierakowksi and Anthony getting games in 2013.

Similarly Higgins will just take $ and no picks whilst Jacobs might get a reduced contract or delisted.

Think Higgins had 30 odd possession game against the Dons this year.

I agree with all of this. I think we are on the same page.

My point was that you could put up a case for almost anyone we look at as potentially being in our best 22 if you are painting the picture that our best 22 is deficient because Jacobs played finals.

From what I've been told, 'great guy' and 'M Thorp' are mutually exclusive concepts.

Oh yeah so was Swallow was a walk in star when he got to the club?

His form, acceleration and ball use has actually improved post injury and rehab.

Wikipedia even shows what swallow went through post two years into debut

"Swallow played the first 3 games in 2008, before being sent back to the VFL to work on his outside run and spread from the stoppages. After some positives performances at North Ballarat Roosters, he injured his ankle during a game and missed 7 weeks. On his return to the VFL he went onto become a crucial member of the Roosters premiership team."

At 22, 1.85cm and the need to work on the same thing swallow had to I personally see some similarities.

If he actually had the determination like swallow had, anything is possible.

Swallow is the byproduct of hardwork outweighing skill. Jacobs has some serious skill. I'd like to see more time aerobically being applied in games and training scenarios before labeling him as squid

I am very aware of how Swallow battled to gain his spot in the team - and then flourished.

That is very much the exception, not the rule. In any case, I thought Swallow showed far more as a young player than Jacobs ever has - I think the latter will be lucky to just make it AFL level let alone be a club champion and elite player in the league.

If you think he has it in him though, fair enough then lets wait and see if proven right - I will be first to admit i'm wrong if he does reach such heights.

I don't think we should trade him. Someone mentioned that he had an interrupted pre-season, which would no doubt have contributed to his down year.

He's never been particularly strong defensively, and I don't think that's what he gets a spot in the team for. He wanders off when we have the ball, he gets on the end of it around the 50m arc, and he kicks goals while the more defensively-minded players in the side cover his man. He's an attacking half-back through and through.

I'd be pissed off we traded him because I believe he's got a lot more in him than he showed this year.

Regarding Higgins maybe i'm still pissed about his pathetic squib that cost Wells a week.

Guess not the worst thing if he came over, he does move well and 'look' a footballer.......ridiculous though when seemingly rewarded as a free agent for being dropped to the VFL.

The same guy who wasn't best 22 at times this year in a bottom 8 team you mean?

He has some talent sure, but why people keep saying he would just walk into a preliminary finalist team knowing this has me staggered.

North played in a preliminary final Saintly but surely nobody really thinks we are a top four contending team just yet.
Lets not get ahead of ourselves many positions still to fill in this team before it is reliable.

The unknown factor is how all those injured players underneath the team that played in the PF will influence the best 22.

Currently we are chasing 2 disgruntled HBFs from teams that did not play finals to fill a position where we currently have no void.

I think we are looking like the scrubber chick at the end of the night when a bloke has had a few two many comes up to her & says she is really cute. She has noticed you look away when your eyes met earlier in the night while you were looking out for something better.
But deep down loves that you say you fancy her but knows if there was a better option they would not be talking to her.

Cant wait to get back to the hot chick that everybody wanted to be with Colby & Wayne Campbell come to mind.

Anyone worried we're going to become too old too quickly? Dal Santo, Swallow, Wells, Harvey, Thompson, Petrie all leaving at similar times. Are we just going for it right now? Why can't we just continue to the draft and only make plays for absolute quality like Dal?
