G'day guys, just wanted to inform you all on a little whisper that I heard from my mate Ameet Bains (who happens to be president) at the Old Melbournians Football Club post season function the other night. I was chatting to Ameet about our draft last year and how we managed to pick up Paddy and Hugh, when the topic of the trade and free agency period came. As any of you would do, I tried to prize as much information about potential dealings this trade period. He was defiant, but he did say one thing about a big name. He said 'all i can say is there'll be a name all saints fans will be excited about'. I don't know if he was taking the piss but in terms of speculation and innuendo this is first hand evidence that the saints WILL make at least one quality transaction this year. My personal guess is Jaegar O'Meara, but he didn't mention this name.

Hey Mate, when did you speak with Ameet about these things. I know him personally and he wouldn't divulge this sort of information.

If this truly is a shallow draft and I cant comment on that as I havent looked into it yet. But Im always one who will buy talent over unproven youngsters because you do not know what they are until years down the track. If it is shallow this is the year to ship picks for players in return. I still stand at hickey or white and our 2nd for Carlisle. If we could land Bennell as well. Id say thats a successful offseason even before the draft. Maybe ship pick 5 to Fremantle for Lachie Weller and their first and then use pick 18 plus webster to land Bennell? and then late picks are rice F/S and sinclair upgrade.

Thank Christ your not our list manager. They are some horrible trades

Uh oh

Someone about to get called out on every little bit of credibility they will ever have.

Private schools Pfffft.
You private school boys would be lucky to last two days at one of the secondary Slaughter House Schools out in the West Burbs.
Out my way if you wore shoes to school and your dad wasnt in jail youd get bashed for being a pretty boy snob.
:D

Your school sounds like it was full of nancy boys compared to my state school in Sydney's west in the 70's.

If it was found out that your dad had shoes in jail, you were bashed for being his son.

Also you mother had to make Kath Pettigrew look like Mother Theresa, otherwise the whole school, including the teachers lined up to bash you

Back into it, I welcome corrections, but so far in this thread I believe the 'linked to' or 'most spoken about trading for' Trade XXII would be;

FB: Smith - Carlisle - Buntine
HB: Bennell - Tarrant - Howe
RK: Hickey* - Shiel - Treloar
CR: Sloane - Prestia - Kelly
HF: LWeller - Hurley - Aish
FF: Taberner - Karnezis - WHE
IC: Barrett Crozier Ballard Hunter

So:
GWS - 6
Fremantle - 5
Essendon - 2
GCS - 2
Adelaide - 1
Collingfilth - 1
Melbourne - 1
Brisbane - 1
Norf - 1
Bulldogs - 1;

And one of our own.

Swap Tarrant for Rory Thompson ;)

Push Howe to back pocket, drop Smith & add Nathan Wilson off HBF

Also I am sure there has been talk about Dangerfield in the last 616 pages
Didn't include him because I don't think he was ever more than a 'wouldn't it be great', as opposed to say Sloane, who was a 'here's how we'll do it'.

Up there there is no one watching over the kids and the place is rife with young guys with money and a party lifestyle. Mav came with all the baggage of the GC and would now be one of the most professional footballers at the club. Harley has so much talent he would probably walk up as our best player, he has the ball magnet qualities of Armo and the excitement of Jack Steven but with better disposal and will probably improve further once he gets around 100 games. He needs to find consistency and he's elite.
I agree completely, and would even go further and say that he isn't as far away from a consistency point of view as some think. In Fantasy/SuperCoach terms, he is averaging 95/104 in 2015, which is elite and a significant improvement on the 85/95 (which is still very good) he has averaged across the past 3 years. So from a purely football perspective, he would be an outstanding recruit. It's just the off-field stuff- and not just the drugs- that worries me...

This is gona be one crazy off season. There are so many big names looking to move clubs. This combined with our first look at futures trading.. Sounds like were going to be big players too... Might not be the regular snooze fest trade period were all used to.
Hurry up Grand Final!
I am as excited as Bill Lawry being a Victorian!

If Richo can turn Armitage from a battler into an elite rover...

Imagine what he could do with Bennell.

You'd have to give up at least pick 6, troubled young man or not. He can make squib decisions on the field, but I think there are only 3 players in the comp with his level of skill (Ablett, Wingard & Betts). He's got more potential tricks than Buddy, Cameron, Rioli, Fyfe etc.

Yeah, you'd probably have to pull the trigger, after a massive character check.

The knock on effect for players like Billings & Steven would be significant, and one of the main reasons for going after him.

Different horses and courses, but look at the difference Deledio makes for the Tigers (they're two different teams!).

I'm just trying to cover up my Saints Savior complex here, but he could be a piece to a puzzle that we never get the chance on again.

AFL website hinting @ Harley bennell in saints colours, on their 'if....... & then.....' Page.

Any truth??

I think not
We've been discussing that in this thread for the last little while, since Barrett broke that on TFS last night. He's basically just rehashing it in this article. Mind you, he's quite funny when he wants to be. This is his "If... then" for Gold Coast:

"IF Zac Smith is on this list next year ... THEN we will be flabbergasted. As in genuinely flabbergasted. Not James Hird-style flabbergasted."
