2 weeks ago we had picks 9, 45, 63 and 81

And two weeks later we have 14, 17, 30 and 31

That's a win.

No it isn't considering what we've given them up for.

If say we traded some players out for them, then yes it would be considered a win, but we have exactly the same list that we went into trade week with, and will be considered as a massive failure, a bit like our Electricity system in this state.

Crows not landing Gibbs is not good at all for Adelaide no matter how you want to sugar coat it, I'm expecting their fans to come out and applaud their club for it's strong stance and not caving in and paying overs but I think adding Gibbs could've really helped the club win their 3rd flag. Their midfield is their only real deficiency and if it gets injuries and Thommo starts to regress their chances of contending are remote.

And in the process they handed a pretty handy player over for a really low pick.

I didn't mention Lyons at all, I dont think i've even posted about Lyons anywhere. I do think it was the best case scenario for them not to get Gibbs though. What they lost Lyons for is niether here nor there since he was always going.

Lyons matters because they've lost one midfielder and failed to get another that they were targeting. And Lyons was always going like Bernie Vince was always going.

Do you know what the sad thing is? we can't really laugh at the crows over Gibbs because our club didn't do much either. We really needed quality, was hoping we could've bought in someone like Deledio, Vardy or Black. Might be a mini or long rebuild for this club.

Also what scares me is by the time we challenge guys like Boak, Gray, Westhoff and Hartlett will be gone.

Interesting reading the opposite views on this final pick swap. It's an unknown IMO. History shows that around pick 9 can often end up a duster, while around the 14 mark can often see sleepers getting picked up. I like the pick 19 moving to 17 too. In the end the jury is out until draft night and we see who we get in those spots.

I have been thoroughly entertained reading the melts on this thread ... cheers for that folks! But in the end a dit disappointed we didnt get to trade out some of our mid-tier players. But realistically, looking at some of the trades like Witts, Cloke, Williams, etc ... we would only have got a half-eaten bag of chips for some of the guys on our list anyway.

Now up to coaches & players to prove their worth. I will back them to do it, but only because I love the club, not because I am convinced they can!

I can understand the logic. If we can't force players out, we can draft a bunch of talented kids with chances of impact in their first year and force players out of the 22. This is a turbo mini-rebuild. Accelerated collection of talent. Risky certainly but nail these picks and we could transform our spine very quickly. Beats having three shit years in a row to secure these sorts of picks.

We mortgaged next year, but if we can make a good pick we get an extra year of development into a kid this year.

Bold strategy cotton, let's see if it pays off.

you are not considering losing next years first round pick likely top 10
If port draft "experts" consider this years draft to be better then next years nah I am comfortable with that.

Will blow up in our face if we finish bottom 6 sure, but I am optimistic that will pick up quality players with our 4 picks. If we do I won't be upset next year. Plus draft orders change so much in the trade period. that just because we don't have a first rounder now, doesn't mean we won't have one after the trade period next year.

Before

Cummings for Schofield
Heuskes for Pick 5
Eagleton for Montgomery
Pick 4 for Wakelin
Bode for Pick 12
Hardwick and Pickett in
Brooks for Pick 6

After

Shattock, Walsh and Lonie
An array of soft cheeses
Unfortunately pick 5 was used on Michael Stevens when Jude Bolton, Mark McVeigh and Lenny Hayes were both available, although trading 4 looked a wild move at the time it was sound and possibly the move that got us the flag, bringing in pick 12 got us Shaun Burgoyne, Hardwick was one we were able to get cheaply as Essendon needed salary cap relief but if it had been done now we would have tried to have been "fair". Still don't understand how we got rid of Brooks for 6, he was a total bust for us and St Kilda obviously didn't do their homework. A bit like taking candy from a baby.

This presumably means that there's a kid we rated highly for our first pick who we think will still be there at 14. It worked for the Crows and Jake Lever a few years back. Hopefully we know what we're doing.

I reckon as soon as the O'Meara trade was done and Gold Coast got 10, the chances of us getting who we wanted with 9 took a nose dive, since if Bowes was still on the table at 8 (and realistically he only has to make it past Carlton and Fremantle) Gold Coast has enough points with 10 to match any bid for him at 9 anyway.
