Another note, the kids that physically dominate at U18 level won't have that advantage against seasoned AFL bodies. The kids with the skills and football nous can develop AFL bodies over a number of preseasons and then really start to shine*.

*Maybe

This in no way reflects my level of enthusiasm for the draft, as im far too busy in life to spend all my time thinking about something I have nothing to do with.. But I had a really random dream the other night that the draft was given the "Ultimate fan interaction experience" whereby fans would get to choose their clubs draft picks via Facebook.

Given the calibre of footy fans on facebook - we ended up using pick 7 to redraft Morabito, and then another recently delistee at 35, this despite the fact that Rotham & even Tim English were still available.

At least we got barlow back

Could be worse. WCE fans would put the 2006 line up back in.

SPP won't get to 50 games

I rate Sam PS very highly and much higher than Sam Powell-Pepper. But that is a silly prediction. Based on performance so far, SPP is very likely to have a successful career with an upside like Martin or Dangerfield and a downside like Suban or Robinson (Brisbane). Much more than 2 complete seasons.

The difference is that SPS is more like a Maurice Rioli or Burgoyne. Upside much better, as long as he doesn't get crippled by injuries.

SPS is likely to be gone before Freo's pick, and SPP would be a reach.

Drafting is a crap shoot. It's all educated guess work at best. Whoever is selected has as much chance of being Jayden Pitt as they do being Nathan Fyfe and everything in between.

Just pick Logue and get it over with.
He's joined a list of players I would be happy for us to take at 7. Looks like he's a sure thing.

Logue won't ever be a Rioli or a Franklin but he will likely be a 200+ game player that is well above average. Also fills a need we've got with Johnson, Dawson, Ibbo all getting on. (He's not that kind of defender but we are light on down back IMO).

We should draft him. Especially if SPS isn't around at our pick. Much rather Logue than English.

SPS may slide to us if you take a tall, I'd still prefer SPP, just my opinion
If SPS lasts to our pick #7 I'd be surprised, let alone last all the way to pick #12. He was predicted as the most likely #1 pick at the start of the year and the recruiters don't make their decisions based just on the most recent highlight videos like we do.

Carlton and GCS have three picks between them before us and both have shown interest in him (understandably). We'd be very lucky if they let him slide, let alone us and those other clubs before WC's pick. If you are thinking he only wants to play in WA because of some rumour, I'd say that rumour is BS.

SPP will almost certainly be available at your first pick, you guys should grab him given the East Perth connection. He's a good player but I still have him behind SPS, Logue, English, Bolton and Rotham personally (that's just the WA players obviously) but our list needs are very different to yours. In your team he might be the best choice of that bunch but if I was WC I'd be looking outside WA with that pick personally, hope SPP slides to your 2nd pick, and pick up Waterman with your 3rd.

Would love to know if Bond and Lloyd have already got into Jack Martin's ear about coming to Freo next year, which will allow us to pick up Logue and negate the need for SPS. I'd still be happy with SPS though.
Yep. Jack Martin would be sweet. God knows what Gold Coast would ask for him though considering the O'Meara dealing this off-season.

what's the obsession with Jack Martin on this board? do people think he's that amazing? Not trying to be a dick head, genuine question.

I haven't seen too much of him tbh but from what I've seen so far he hasn't exactly set the world on fire. He would cost a lot too (given he probably would have gone number 1).

He was taken as a 17 year old after trading with GWS. In my opinion, now that he's got an AFL body (was skinny as a rake when he first came in), he has shown he's every bit as good, if not better, than Jaeger O'Meara, David Swallow, Stephen Coniglio. He tore us a new one this year. Smooth mover, WA boy, pace, agility, great skills, runs hard, strong hands and has his best footy ahead of him.

Yeah he was part of the mini-draft IIRC. He had a superb game against us but I think people are focusing too much on that game. He's had a pretty underwhelming career (given the hype) so far.
