Half decent key position players at our club should not be traded under any circumstances at present . If a club has a strong spine with depth in key positions OK but we don't and haven't for years which has been a huge problem so we shouldn't be giving them away . Gibbs maybe or any other midfielder but key position bad move I feel .

Half decent won win you a flag.

We are light years away from winning a flag that discussion shouldn't even be entered into right now it's about being competitive and building a good culture in the playing group . Offloading key position players with talent is not a good policy I believe . As they are much harder to replace good ones that is than midfielders flankers etc..

Hang on, it was 'half decent' and now it 'has talent'??

My view is we are a long way off and need to build a list with as many stars as possible, and SOS showed last year he is willing to make the hard decisions. I think you're dreaming if you think SOS won't consider trading 'half decent' KPPs. He will do almost anything required to get the chips he wants at the table. Hardly anyone is safe. In fact I would suggest only 2 players on the list are untouchable. Cripps and Weitering.

The club was prepared to enter 2016 with SFA forwardline. They've taken the plunge. They'll do whatever it takes to improve the list. Seriously, we can't be precious about this. I bet you SOS won't be.

Agree he's done a fantastic job so far sos and I agree with you also he will do whatever it takes regarding trading , draft etc .
Im just making a point I feel it's better we look at other avenues re midfielders flankers of which there's not much value on our list anyway than our very thin stocks of talented kpps . Hopefully that excludes the new batch of McKay weitering in and curnow .

RE: Sheehan

If he's AFL fit, he's AFL capable; it's that simple.
I think if he's AFL fit, he's worthwhile playing this year so we can see where he is at, but not a lock-in best 22 player. It's hard to see who makes way for him to play and he might have to wait for an injury, form slump or resting player to get his first gig.

Having said all that, Murphy's Law demands that the Irishman be picked round 1 to make me look the fool!

It's more along the lines of someone would push up from defence and a fringe player sacrificed. My pick to push into midfield would be Docherty.

Shan, you don't need any help from Murphy... :p

I'm not a big drinker, but...Thursday night just seems the kind of event you need grog saved up for.

We win and I'm gonna celebrate hard
We lose badly and I'm gonna need to commiserate

* And anything in between? Well, I've now got all this grog lying around and it ain't gonna drink itself...

Byrne may be the more secure bet but what people forget is just how disciplined, strong and quick Sheehan is.

What impressed me most in his first year playing VFL, was just how close he was able to stick to his opponent.............for the whole match.

He'll make for a good player, alright. Just needs to get back to full fitness and get a good run at things.

I'm a big sheehan fan but i wish he had stayed with us when he came over with tuohy, he was the bees knees of galic footy.

I'm hearing you Shan. It's more about playing the percentages with where our list is at.

I think our expectations of Sheehan need to be lowered...after all he is almost 26 and still on the rookie list with only a few games to his name...

He plays the year out as a 25 year old and given a clear run, he may well be in the best 22 and the only reason he was/is on the rookie list is for injury.

That gives him: 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31..........At least another 6 years to go after this one. If he's good enough, I'd invest in those 6 years. Wouldn't you?

Odds are against him, no doubt. He is a rookie, older than your average new player and was an international. BUT, the same could have been said about numerous players.

This year is very important to the rest of his career - could lock him in for longer or see him cut away. It's easier to bet that a player won't make it than making it, but I like him enough to not write him off until the end of the year after he actually plays footy again.
