Very good chance we will go after a highly rated tall forward.
McKay is a long term speculative pick really.
Curnow is 191cm, as is SOS.
Levi can't kick.
This year, its another mids draft with hardly any rated KPP's as it stands now. Of course this could change, and i'll be taking a close interest in the champs.

I think by the end of the year we should have a better idea if McKay is going to turn into the player we hope and Jack Silvagni is already looking extremely promising. If they are progressing well and the best prospect is a midfielder then i would be very happy to take the mid.. Alternatively if we have concerns about McKay making it then i wouldnt be opposed to trading our first pick for an established under 25 key position forward.

I'm not so sure about that bit.

Trading players is the one thing we would be able to do, especially those who won't be part of our next premiership assault.
Not having a go at you specifically, but I'm sick of seeing this as an excuse to trade a good player. Just because they might not play in our next flag, doesn't mean they can't be vital in the development of the team during the build up.

Not sure we can say that we will have a better idea on Harry this year. Half a year on the sidelines could put him another year behind. By the time he comes back and plays some VFL games, he will barely have time to work into some good form, let alone come into senior selection focus.

I agree, but i am not expecting him to play seniors at all. But if he looks a competent VFL level key forward... think Jesse Hogan when he touched up Matthew Watson as a 17yo in the VFL.. then we know the signs are there.

While I agree with that philosophy, I also think if you can trade a decent starter who likely won't be apart of your next flag for someone who should be able to play at about the same level, with potential to be much, much better and also be a part of the next flag tilt is definitely worth the trade.

Murphy, Gibbs and tuohy are our only more senior players with currency.

Murphy is an obvious untouchable and tuohy Is now very important along with Docherty as our backing leaders and designated kickers.

I would not trade Gibbs either. Our midfield is already very shallow and Murphy and Gibbs are two of our best along with Cripps.

Murphy and Gibbs leading our midfield is very important to the development of our team.

A cleshay statement, but true nonetheless, big guys take more time to develop. Harry mightn't be a key player for us until he is 22+. So putting the pressure on him to perform at 18/19 is unrealistic, even in the VFL. It would be great don't get me wrong, but I think looking at his performance next season you will get a better idea of how he might turn out, maybe even the season after.

Not everyone turns out like a Cripps/Hogan/Judd who are genuine stars in the league at under 21. Even Gary Ablett jnr. wasnt a genuine gun player until he was about 23.

In all honesty i dont think there is anyone left on our list that has any trade currency that i would be prepared to trade.. Perhaps someone like an Everitt who might get us a 2nd round upgrade.. Eg Everett + our 2nd (pick 22) for pick 12. But even that is an unnecessary trade that probably doesn't see us win.. Levi might have similar value but we need him for structure until McKay is ready.

Unless a player wants out, i dont see us trading this year.

Other senior players have currency, just not as much currency as the ones you've mentioned.

clubs have shown interest in casboult & Everett, for example. they might not yield first round picks, but they could yield second or third round picks which could be used together with our other picks to get a first round pick.

Curnow came from trading two second round picks to the Dogs.

at this stage I wouldn't be discounting the club's - and silvagni's - ability to copy the 2015 draft in 2016. the trade period can be "played with," you've just got to be creative in how you use it.

With the mooted plethora of quality big bodied mids available in the upcoming draft, there is no way known that we will be snaffling a 178cm goalsneak with our first pick.

Might be a nice player but we have other pressing needs that must be addressed first.

You're really underselling him as merely a goalsneak. At this point in time, he's pretty much unanimously rated in the top 3 prospects of the entire draft. One would assume * will have the #1 pick (and maybe #2 as well). They're going to be desperately needing mids (and just about everything else). We've got Cripps, Gibbs, Kerridge, Graham, E & C Curnow who are all big bodied inside types. If Ainsworth is there at our pick, then we take him. Simple as that.

Best available. AND needs. We need to kick a winning score, and a gun crumbing forward that can run through the middle is exactly what we need.

I agree. We don't really have a small fast mid who can hit the scoreboard (as ideally he would develop into that role). Boekhorst is a winger/forward flank. Buckley half back. Tutt is Tutt.

I think who we select will be heavily best player available at the top with an eye on need perhaps in the middle rounds. We don't have the luxury of reaching for a positional need right now, we need talent and depth at almost all positions.

I meant if we do go for a KPP it'd likely be via a trade.
But that will be costly of course, and then there is a heavy rumour on Prestia.

Next year might be the year to trade for a KPP who is coming out of contract. There are a number of good ones who could be available - Patton, Tomlinson and Wright.

This time last year no one had heard of Josh Shache or Clayton Oliver who look like being the best KPF & best mid to come out of the 2015 draft.

Yes that would be good. Gives McKay and Levi a year to show what they can offer, granted can't expect too much from the former.
Of course anything could happen between now and Oct/Nov.

Yeah i agree.
We should hit the draft hard again this year and see what we can do trade wise in 2017.
