Not sure the PSD has really netted much value in quite a while.

Sorry if i wasn't clear, i am saying you can always get experience and good leaders through the psd or delisted free agents like Daniel Cross, like James Kelly, Stokes, Josh Hunt, Steve Johnson to fill any void left by trading experienced players with currency. It seems this is the model GWS are going by. Loading up with kids and topping up with free older players who come in for a season or two. Just a thought.

Hmm. Some good points raised here.

Unless we can get someone into the Club that is close to elite for relatively cheap, I'm not interested in this (it won't happen anyway). Personally, I would like to see a repeat of last year's trade period - aggressive, focussed on the long-term - resulting in a minimum 3 first round draft picks. What will it take to make this happen?

We're likely to have a top 3 pick in this year's draft. I'm open to trading our first pick on for 2 high first-round picks.

Re. the trade table, I don't think many foresaw SOS trading on Menzel. I reckon he will have a several names up on his whiteboard (hidden away at home, sat above his 2 premiership medals and a signed life-size photograph of his 1988 mark of the year). No players are safe from his list strategy IMO and his "up for trade" list would potentially include Gibbs, Kreuzer, Casboult, Everitt, Tuohy, Byrne, Graham.

Gibbs is the only one of those that gets us a first round pick, he doesnt want to go anywhere so wont happen.

We have the Western Bulldog's 3rd rounder....so will be a late one.
The bad news from a trade perspective is GWS have stockpiled Collingwood and Geelong's first and Adelaide's 2nd.
The Suns have Melbourne's first and three extra seconds.

Makes the possibility of trading for academy points a little more difficult.

Post of the Week right here.
I didn't know that, and going off SOS' strategy last year this would make it more difficult for him to replicate what he did last year.
Bummer then !
Been a bit of a shit morning.
Heaps of bird poo on my bonnet. Pulled over by the POL-ice ($190 fee). Now THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK so maybe bundling and trading up will be more difficult.
But I still think Levi and Dre will be worth something.
Let's say :

Levi - Pick 30
Dre - Pick 45

So we go to draft with 2, 20, 30, 38, 45, 56.

I am assuming we won't get a priority pick because we look like we will play with heart and a good game plan this year and so even though we lack polish and goal kickers I still think we will at worst equal the 4 wins from last year.

How can SOS bundle and trade up picks 30-56?

Aren't they about to drop the free agency requirements 2 years?

That would mean Patton and Tomlinson would be eligible for free agency when their contracts are up.
Not sure about that.
I thought they were only discussing the possibility of reducing the free agency years of service. Didn't think it had gotten past this point.

They got extremely strong support from the AFLPA when it was put forward, and the reduction was 2 years, which makes it 6 for restricted free agency.

I would rather see us pay for Saverio to come back to the club than trade Levi for a speculative pick

GWS have 3 first rounders - their own, Geelongs and the Pies. As some said, I would mind us looking at a 2 for 1 deal with our first.

Would we do the GWS and Pies first rounders for ours? Would work out at two picks in the 7-13 range for ours (2-4). If the draft is a deep one, I'd be happy for SOS to back himself. I reckon GWS would consider it

He wouldn't come cheap.
Not sure we're in a position to really shell out that sort of coin. Plus i believe we'll really go hard at the draft again this year.

I wouldn't mind it fi we can afford it, he is quality. Plus, someone like that expedites the reset...All of a sudden, in 2019, we've got year 3 Weitering and Hurley in his prime holding down the back half. Murph and Gibbs still in tail end of their prime. Cripps and co doing their thing...If McKay becomes a serviceable KPF, that is a top 4 type side.

That said, we'd only do it if he walked out on his contract which, by all accounts, he is entitled to do. I agree - don't think we'd be willing to depart with picks for him given where we are at.

It depends whats available at those picks, reading phantom drafts the standout pick at #2 the moment is a small forward people are comparing to Jamie Elliott.. If this is the type of player we will get with #2 then i would be very happy to downgrade pick 2 for 2 top 15 picks, as long as 1 was top 10.

Ainsworth is a very very good player. I think he hurt his knee this week though.

Trading our pick 2 for 2 picks in the first round would be something SOS would be thinking of I reckon, given it will be harder for him to get what he wants this year.

Reading between the lines, I think it has been hard to trade a high pick for 2 good ones. The new clubs have tried this with their pick 1s and never traded them.
