There have been a few on here with medical backgrounds that I would think know more than you and I, not to mention people in the media. A lot of them aren't very confident he'll be back to his best.

For what it's worth there have only been a couple of AFL footballers who have had a similar injury. One was Michael Long who played for another 6 years but was not the same player and only averaged 10 games a year. The other was Chris Knights from Adelaide/Richmond. He only played the one game after that.

I'm not claiming to be an expert, just basing my opinion on things that I've read and heard from people that would know more than me.

Okay well time will tell then, im backing the bloke to return to his best.

Hopper to half time of his first game (from just 68% game time): 18 disposals (equal-2nd most on the ground, at 72% DE, 8 contested), 4 clearances (2 centre), 4 inside 50's, 3 marks.
And I was there to witness it.

Absolute gun. Looked like a 3rd-4th year player out there IMHO

How was Steele
Very good. His desperation at the contest, to dive for scraps, smother, hunt his opponent, desire to win the ball are all elite. Disposal good - played majority half forward. Didn't really notice him go into the guts cos I was in awe of Hopper.

It's just crazy how many mids they have that we would be salivating over if we could just add one to our list... Sheil, Kelly, Steele, Hopper, Whitfield, Coniglio

Difference between their depth and our depth, is that if one of their players wants more opportunity elsewhere their value is probably a 1st rounder. Most of our players we wouldn't get a draft pick back. They lose quality, then gain the quality back with a high draft pick.
This is the biggest issue with the concessions they were given. Half of the players they drafted will leave but will also command high picks, meaning their replacements will be high picks (made worse by the academy) and so on. It has basically been like giving someone 10 million in the bank, as long as they dont do anything stupid each year they will still have 10 million in the bank just on the interest alone.

Things will even out once they all become free agents as there is no way they'll be able to afford to keep them all, some will walk and instead of getting one or two high draft picks for them they'll get a late first rounder.

They will still be bloody good for a fair period but it won't last forever.

He is, but apparently it's so easy to get elite young talent in to your club when you don't have an academy or really high picks that he wouldn't be worth us making an offer of say $500K x 4 years for, so I look forward to us getting a stack of it in in other ways. :thumbsu:

Why do people say things like this because others disagree. I actually said he could be worth a million dollars in a year and a halfs time. Who knows but when you said it he hadn't played a game. I have an idea. Why don't we offer Weitering 500k a year. And why does your way automatically work? Lets face it its pie in the sky stuff an that's fine because this thread is all about hope and mainly nearly impossible trades. We cant even offer that money now because you cant make people sign 2 years in advance.

hit the Cas...put it all on black

I don't care much for GWS, they will win flags & we'll have to suck it up unfortunately.

What will give me pleasure though is watching Toby Greene, who since he played his first game has trashtalked & boasted how they'll be a powerhouse & win multiple flags, get bypassed for selection when these academy kids become elite & go past him....

Correct anyone can have an opinion. However, "stronger" opinions contain evidence.
Now, I never said STK would be recruiting him, I just threw it out there because over these 220 pages or whatever JOM has been spoken about frequently.
You seemed to think he won't get to his 'former best' which means you are writing him off before he comes back.
Anyway some of the other stuff was said to birdman as well FYI
Mate go back and read your posts you've taken several left turns both in implication and assertion.

Just a tip - Every time you try and suggest your opinion is superior to others through some implied intellectual high moral ground you're going to have to expect to get a less than friendly response.

But hey enjoy your day fellow saints man.

Good call re Hopper, but let's cool our jets! Unfortunately, you can't make anyone who is contracted offers like that, you will lose draft picks and get a massive fine, it's not realistic.

Good luck to GWS, they are one of the main reasons we get a massive kickback from TV rights, otherwise we would be out of business.

We arent ready to challenge yet so enjoy watching them this year and next, then pay their real superstars like Shiel etc serious money at the end of their contracts. We will have MEGA bucks available in two to three years time. I honestly think they are a talent development academy, it's not possible for them to keep their blokes, short term maybe, but not medium to long term.
Has anyone also noticed most of their contract extensions are only two years? Think about it.

Free agency will be our salvation after the next two drafts.
I also hear Hurley is 60-40 St Kilda, but if it doesn't happen, don't shoot the messenger!

What's Hurley gonna cost though is the issue?
