Good call re Hopper, but let's cool our jets! Unfortunately, you can't make anyone who is contracted offers like that, you will lose draft picks and get a massive fine, it's not realistic.

Good luck to GWS, they are one of the main reasons we get a massive kickback from TV rights, otherwise we would be out of business.

We arent ready to challenge yet so enjoy watching them this year and next, then pay their real superstars like Shiel etc serious money at the end of their contracts. We will have MEGA bucks available in two to three years time. I honestly think they are a talent development academy, it's not possible for them to keep their blokes, short term maybe, but not medium to long term.
Has anyone also noticed most of their contract extensions are only two years? Think about it.

Free agency will be our salvation after the next two drafts.
I also hear Hurley is 60-40 St Kilda, but if it doesn't happen, don't shoot the messenger!
I hope not (Hurley) will cost us a small fortune as he is still contracted and I just don't see the point we we need midfielders.

Cant see Hurley coming to us but if did we may as well get rid of Goddard because ive seen nothing about Richo's coaching to suggest he would ever play 3 talls in the one side. He struggles to want to play 2.

the only way I want hurley is dfa. if that can be achieved and we don't lose picks then open up the cheque book.

do NOT want to have to deal with essendon again.

would definitely mean the end for chips but he is probably going to hang up the boots in any case.

I like the hopper play. we reportedly were very keen and sounded him out for our pick 6 I believe. hoping we buttered him up nicely as he will be a star. doesn't appear to have the figjam attitude of petracca either (who would also be a star). I see why we took mccartin but gee you would love both :)

Nothing, is tossing up suing Essendon for mega bucks and walking as a DFA. They get zero.

He cant just walk as a delisted FA. He would have to go to court of hope or hope Essendon or the AFL make him a DFA which I doubt would happen. As for suing Essendon that wont have any bearing on staying or going IMO.

If Heppell and Watson re-sign (which I think they will), the pressure on Hurley to re-sign will be too much.
I am hoping he comes but it looks a long shot at this point.
Hooker re-signing changed the narrative.

Hurley like Heppell don't need to re sign. They have a contract. He would somehow have to break his contract to leave.

This is not a democracy, it's the AFL. If he wants to leave the AFL will make it happen. I'm also sure the legal advice the AFLPA is giving him would be better than any of us on here would know.

Agreed so neither of us know what legal advise he is getting unless we are friends or manager or him. If he he was DFA which I still doubt I would rather use the 800k on the genuine mid where we are definitely still short of. I don't think we are short of talls.

Pretty sure Hurley is back training with the main group of Essendon players so I'd say it would be very unlikely that he would walk and break a contract IMO. We can dream though!
He was in SA at the races yesterday with Carlisle

Hurley is exactly the kind of backman we need to replace Fisher and or Dempster. Would slot right in.

However the issue with getting him outside of being a DFA is too much frankly and would be a no go. IF he was going to pursue the action to nullify his contract then we jump on him with everything we have. Just have to wait and see.

We're not in a position yet to be against recruiting any talented player.

Getting a super talented & versatile 194cm player into our club is not mutually exclusive to getting A grade midfield talent in as well.

Just remember that even if Hurley does return to Essendope & they flog themselves silly about it, unless he signs an extension he's still a FA at the end of 2017.

I know Plugger will not have a bar of it but he's still got a strong link to the Saints & idolises Roo.

If Rooey is involved in having a quiet chat to him then that can only be a positive for us.

I'm all for taking him next year as a free agent next year.

I just think it would be stupidity to throw a first round pick for him this year.

For the record I don't believe Hurley will do anything other than re-sign with the Dons.

That said my understanding is that his current contract is already voidable based on the work safe fines.

Dons where done for unsafe work environment, I think that enables the players to argue breach of contract.

Yep you are right about me not believing players care about who they followed 10 years ago. His whole family would now follow the Dons. And we can get 2 different types of players but we could also get 2 mids if available and they may be better use than another KPP. That has been what we have been building in the last 4 years. Now its time for the mids UMO of course.

You won't be getting Hurley but you can have Tayte Pears though free of charge.
