Speaking of first round picks and taking best mids available etc.

Clearly It's very early in the year for projecting draft rankings/ladder positions, but..

Say we finish in the bottom handful come season's end, possess a top 5 pick and both Brodie and Petrevski-Seton are available at said pick; who do we take?

Watching these 2 guys star the other day against Werribee has finally got me thinking about this years draft (just a little).

Assuming both end the year projecting as top 5-10 talents, who fits our team/needs more strongly?

Brodie as that tall, strong, explosive accumulator. Our hopeful A-grade dominant mid we'd all love.

Or Petrevski-Seton as that silky-skilled, creative, pin-point passing 'x-factor' mid/forward. Our own dangerous excitement-machine ala Rioli.

Tricky one for mine. Can't deny we'd love an injection of flair and exceptional ball use into the team. Or that we could do with a big dominant pure mid or two. Say SPS is seen as the better talent; is he too small for us to pull the trigger on another sub 180cm mid? Does Brodie's height win out?

Once again, very early days. Thoughts?

Tough one! This is why I think we should try and get another top 10 draft pick this year.

id have to lean towards brodie only because his a vic boy and is 187cm, could grow to 190cm.

Breaks down this way IMO;
Kicking: Petrovski-Seton
Pace: Petrovski-Seton
Ball-winning: Brodie
Clearances: Brodie
Marking: Brodie
X-Factor: Petrovski-Seton
Size: Brodie

Depends on what we identify as our greatest need.

I hate comparisons - because no one is going to be compared to a journeyman type or GOP, only the guns; and that adds too much expectation and is unfair to the kids - but if I was going to do that, what you're looking at is a kind of (midfield) Cyril v Fyfe type thing.

What's happening with Tom Lee? What would he cost in a trade a 3rd or 4th round pick? Looks to be on the outer at the saints is there a good reason for that.

Appreciate the insight!

I almost couldn't refuse the (midfield) Cyril if given the choice, just so dangerous/a point of difference in regards to our teams general kicking skills...

To pass that up for the bigger guy you'd want to be pretty bloody confident he could get to Fyfe type levels of domination. But geez we'd love that Fyfe/Bont/Cripps type as well, no doubt.

Really interesting thought given we all know we just need 'THE BEST' mid we can take.. yet at the same time, 'team needs/composition' is beginning to creep into the equation more and more as well. Especially as we'll now be looking to roundout our midfield with the right (& varied) 'types'.

H0w could you be bothered? Does the WB have a forum? I really wonder about peoples health if they are posting on an opposition forum after we just lost.
Mate Im not here to troll just asking a question I have nothing but respect for the saints and always will. The saints have smashed us more then once so I never would troll after a win. Just honestly interested in Tom Lee and where is the best place to find out the saints board :)

So your not trolling but basically said Lee was a hack and suggest we trade one of either our 4 best or most promising players to take a punt on an unknown. If it smells like trolling its probably trolling.

Mate you need to honestly read it again.. I'm asking about Lee because I want him at the Dogs. And I told someone what it would take to get a top 10 pick never did I say do it

Most are confused why Lee isn't getting a game, it could be his endurance. Could be a very good swingman.

Will trade Lee for a top 10 pick, if you want him?

I'd hoped we'd be OK for inside mids, but whilst we have a lot of them, not many are looking like doing what we need.
Looking at averages for contested possessions for really good insiders we see
Ablett - Season 1: 6, 2: 8 3:8 4: 9 5: 8 6:10 general improvement noticed every two years minimum.
Fyfe - Season 1: 7, 2: 12, 3: 12 general improvement every year
Dangerfield - Season 1: 3, 2: 7, 3: 9, 4: 10 general improvement every year

Then our guys.
Armitage - Season 1: 2, 2: 4, 3:8, 4:8, 5: 8, 6: 11 general improvement noticed every two years minimum
Steven - Season 1: 3, 2:4 , 3:8, 4: 9, 5:11 general improvement every year.

Ross- Season 1: 7( one game), 2:6 , 3:6, 4: 7 , 5: ( 5 -2 games ). largely static.
Curren - Season1 : 6, 2: 6, 3:,3 No improvement.
Minchington - Season1 :4, 2: 5, 3:5 minimal improvement.
Dunstan - Season 1 : 8, 2: 7, 3: 6( after 2 games ) - decline
Acres - Season 1: 6, Season 2: 6 , Season 3 ( 1 game ) 10

Jack Newnes , who is not largely considered an inside player averaged 7 contested disposals last season.

I really don't have a lot of confidence in this lot, and I guess if we thought Brodie could turn into a better than average ball winner, then we still need one. But if he's only going to be another "almost" we'd be better to go for the outside player.

Just my opinion I dont think Lee will be on a AFL list next year, at his second club his body doesn't seem to stand to the work Load of AFL and his shoulders have been a big worry

I didn't get that from what he said at all.
Seeing as we don't seem to have any interest in using Lee a 3rd/4th round wouldn't be bad.
And he's right if we want to get a top 10 pick in we need to trade out something of value.

He said he was on the outer for good reason so unless he knows the good reason I would suggest he meant ability and yes you have to trade something of value to get a top 10 pick but I reckon he said the only 4 players you wouldn't trade.

I read it as him asking if there is a good reason for why Lee is on the outer, could be wrong though.
