Cheers. From what I recall it was bad enough to keep him out of junior footy for a whole year & scare clubs off from picking him. Geelong apparently took a 'risk' selecting him at pick 7.
I thought it was his ACL, could be wrong

Only one I can think of is Dan Menzel. Still looks a star after years out of the game.
Big difference. Menzel has ruptured his ACL 4 times. O'Meara has had chronic patella tendonitis for 7 years which ended in a patella tendon rupture & has had complications with that same knee since. This will be his 3rd arthroscopic surgery on that knee since the rupture in April 2015. He's also had a few other arthroscopes on those knees in previous preseasons

I'm fine with that, but gambling a mil of our salary cap and two good picks on two who haven't played for two years is bordering on madness, or at least recklessness, IMO.

I'd much rather spend up a similar amount on Hurley, or as I've said previously, gamble on a Jacob Hopper or Matt Kennedy type next year, who very well could end up elite, but aren't yet. I'd much rather gamble a chunk of money and/or good picks on someone like that becoming elite at AFL level than someone who hasn't played for two years and who has a serious injury issue becoming elite and having an elite type career.

The fact that we've nabbed some diamonds in the rough for practically nothing like Membrey, Bruce, Mav and Robbo might mean we don't have to take any reckless gambles in order to compete with the likes of GWS going forward.

Totally agree AR - if we had to give anymore than a 4th round on JOM I would be disappointed. To be honest I would rather CEY from Adelaide or Barrett from GWS.

We finally have a competent recruitment team yet we are prepared to throw there s
kills to the shizenhausen on the supposed 'quick fix' which has plagued our club for 100 years!

If we cant get physically sound players I implore the club to back in their recruitment team and go to the draft.

CEY or WHE would be good options who wouldn't cost too much, even if they didn't end up best 22 down the track they'd he add very good depth to the list. Saw MG/BS (sorry can't remember who) mention that trout wants to build depth to the list to be able to compete with GWS down to the track, adding low cost players with potential would help us build that depth.

I guess that just begs the question which players would be better than our lower end players (how do you make that comparison when both sets of players aren't getting regular games in the 1's) rather than the out and out best players

Rofl... Guessing?

So far my prognoses have been like shooting fish in a barrel mate

The bloke is farked
Didn't realise he was a patient of yours? There's plenty of cases in Gridiron where running backs have had a similar type of injury and made returns, albeit most not to their former high levels.

Anyway, my point was not JOM, it was about being creative and taking a punt on a high reward player if we want to win a flag, whoever that may be.

What would you see us paying for Omeara if we went for him Brian?

Apparently Crouch has re-signed with Adelaide :( Was one that I would've loved to have
Hmmm - i know we had a brief chat with him not so long ago. No specifics and it wasn't a clear discussion about whether he would come. Just checking on how keen he might be,potential cost etc.

What we would like to pay vs what we have to pay are probably worlds apart. In an ideal world he tells GC he wants to be traded to us, that's a starting point. Somewhere along the way there's some sort of first round pick involved, but that could be pick 18 or so if we can get involved with some other clubs.

If it was a low end mid to late teen pick I would pull the trigger, especially in this draft. In reality that's a first round selection in name only, there aren't too many Nat Fyfes around at pick 18-20 normally.

First round pick?

Screw that.

We got Acres and Dunstan around pick 18, have gotten McKenzie and Goddard recently just after that.

You've got Zach Merret's dropping into the 20s, would much rather take a gamble on a talented young player our recruiters have been watching for years ahead of O'Meara.

A first rounder yeh nah nah nah nah

In nat fyfes draft year they were saying there were no nat fyfes...look how that panned out for us

Carlisle, Goddard, Finlayson and Coughlan is an awfully good group of KPDs.

And it allows for Hughy to both recover properly, and potentially play the role of KPF/2nd ruck.
I love the idea of Goddard as a KPF/2nd ruck.
Could free up a ruckman to trade for Hurley, if only we could have played Goddard in that role for a chunk of games this year.

A first round pick for O'Meara? The guy who does his knee bending over to tie his shoe laces?

Cheers Brian appreciate your work

With all the spuds on Freo's list he is the one their supporters love picking on , and that says it all. That is from a great source too , so I was rapt to hear it , as there were a lot of people on this Saints forum pushing his cart.
He would be one of our better players.

And possible future captain.
