Are saints enquiring about Motlop?

I would wonder why the Cats would let him go, he's very good player and you don't shop them around unless there are issues.

Someone's a smartarse I see.. not even a funny smartarse, my comment was aimed at north being geriatrics.

Yeah, I got it but I thought it was a pretty funny line from both of you. I didn't think he was smart arseing.

The fact that the academy kids who are potentially top 3 draft picks can be graded as worth a handful of later picks says that it really only benefits their new franchise clubs and Sydney how ever they came up with it. If it's of any benefit we should bundle up all our duds and later picks and swap them for Bontempelli.
Yeah, it's a huge rort. Would anyone trade a whole bunch of picks in the 40s for pick 1? Of course not. Yet that's what the northern teams could have done.

How many times does this need to be repeated before people get it through their thick skulls..

Our pick 10 for picks 34/35/46 is the exact same value under the points system, would you people do that trade? No you wouldn't, so stop using the points system as a guide for trades because it doesn't work.
Please repeat it once more on the count of skull being a few mm thicker than most.

I'm fairly new so I guess I don't understand the humour yet..

Crazy? Probably. But it's that time of year isn't it! :)

When are people going to get statistics through their thick skulls. It is a guide. Merely a guide. No you wouldnt do that exact trade - especially in our position. But for certain trades the points system can be used as a guide.
The points system is based on probabilities. Over a long period - on average - those picks (points) would yield similar player outcomes. That is how the points were allocated.
It is based on averages and thus not a perfect measure.

Some examples - Liam Sumner, Daniel Gorringe, Melksham, Freeman were pick 10s.
Dangerfield & Daniher pick 10s.

Dempster, Connor Blakely and Max Gawn pick 34s.

In the Saints position we already have a core squad of young talent - we only need a few young guns to supplement our list so we definitely should look to keep pick 10.

But what if you were a North and looking at a complete re-build? You might look at getting more picks in the draft.
I think the Saints were smart because we tried to get decent draft picks by trading away players who were over their peak (NDS, Goddard).

Noone is saying the points system should be used narrowly and religiously. But it is a rough guide. It is more rigorous and evidence based than the 'gut feel' of people on bigfooty.

We can only hope. Even better if their drop down the ladder coincides with their move to Dingley. Right now their fans are accepting the move away from Hawks heartland because they have three shiny new cups in the cupboard. Add some wooden spoons and they might not be so cordial. Can only be good for us if a weakened Hawthorn try and move onto our territory rather than a powerful Hawthorn.

all this stuff about Hawks being ``able to take risks" is easy to say when their core group was so strong... but some of these will start to hurt them in the next few years...
making mistakes during any single trade period can hurt for years to come...
Saints 2009 will hurt us for a few years yet...
