Mike did point out for alotof the time Eddie was playing in an at best average Carlton team, whereas Milne played in a much stronger St Kilda team with better supply.

I honestly can't split them, but Stephen was a saint so I'll go with him.

My best memory of Farmer is the Baker debacle, Mike's Melbourne supporting might be showing there.
I think we actually need to see Betts on the big stage. That was a knock of Milne's. Eddie would probably entrench that ranking if he does well in finals in coming years. If not, it's quite even. Saints might have been successful, but we were also painfully defensive for a handful of those years.

Really if you are using stats to try and justify Longer's year last year to Hickey's this year then I give up. Just look at how both have played and how one actually helped the club much more around the ground. I think I might use the B and F and where they both finished at the end of the season especially in a season where we had much better players than last year. And I'm glad you agree with me on that but I'm still stuffed how the club sort it out. The only option is pushing Bruce back but that's really just making the forward line weaker.

And how does Longer become A grade if Hickeys plays as well next season as this? Unfortunately I don't see anything A grade about him apart from hoping because he is young he will improve. 6 out 19 10 possession games last year compared to 18 out of 20 got Hickey.
Either skunk to the middle or Bruce replaces Fisher.

Here's a list of under 25's I hope we're having a look at:

Jack Steele
Jeremy Finlayson
Jarryd Lyons*
Darcy Gardiner
Jayden Laverde
Ed Langdon
Tom Lamb

*oldest on this list at 24 but has had a solid year & remains unsigned

2 or 3 of the above names & I'd be happy. None would cost us our 1st rounders, but all would create some nice talent depth in the list.

Both games we played his year Richardson and Roos thought Hickey had a better game than Gawn.
Round 17 St Kilda vs Melbourne : Hickey got 10 votes in the coaches award, Gawn 0. I reckon he had him covered easily in that match. Voted BOG.
Round 6 Melbourne vs St Kilda: Hickey got 2 votes in the coaches award, Gawn 0.

I think your underrating Hickey a bit hear MG, his had a great season and personally I'd put him top 5 ruckmen this season. Longer has the potential to overtake Hickey and I think he'll be a very good player just not sure how he takes Hickey's spot unless its through injury. Will definitely be an interesting discussion for future seasons to come!

Paul Roos is insane so I take anything he's involved in with a grain of salt!
I'm not under rating Hickey at all, I'm just looking at it as a realist. Hickey has had a good year, but we want (and need) more from our number 1 ruck the next 4 years, whether that's Hickey, Longer or Pierce.
I personally like physical rucks, somebody that can really impact the contest when the footy is on the ground, and right now Tom doesn't have the size or strength to do that. A ruck that can crash and bash in tight to provide space for his mids are just priceless.

Any chance you can just post some quotes? I ain't paying for a HS subscription!
There's not much in it. It's that dickhead Landsberger (aka Dodo's mouth piece). Not even one source quoted. Opening two paragraphs:

"ESSENDON will refuse Melbourne’s offer a second-round pick for wantaway defender Michael Hibberd, setting the scene for a bitter trade stoush.

The Bombers are adamant Hibberd — contracted at Tullamarine in 2017 — is worth more than No.27, the Demons’ current first selection."

No doubt just throwing up on the website whatever text message he had just received.

ESSENDON will refuse Melbourne’s offer a second-round pick for wantaway defender Michael Hibberd, setting the scene for a bitter trade stoush.

The Bombers are adamant Hibberd — contracted at Tullamarine in 2017 — is worth more than No.27, the Demons’ current first selection.

Melbourne traded its 2016 first-round selection to Gold Coast last year and will be hesitant to hand over its first pick in next year’s draft.

If a trade is struck it would add to the intrigue should Essendon and Melbourne play on Friday night in Round 1 next season.

TRADE TARGET: HIBBERD WOULD BE ‘BIG ASSET’ FOR DEES

The Bombers have asked the AFL for the prime time timeslot and suggested the Demons as their opponent.

But the Dons are set to play hardball on Hibberd and will entertain offers from other clubs.

Last October they threatened to send Jake Carlisle to Hawthorn for an attractive deal before St Kilda found a way to part with pick No.5.

Talks with the Hawks became so serious that coach Alastair Clarkson arrived at Carlisle’s Florida hotel unannounced to talk him into joining the premiers.

Should trade talks with the Dees breakdown, one action for Hibberd is to go to the AFL’s grievance tribunal and argue breach of contract over the circumstances that led to his current doping ban.

If successful, that would allow him to change clubs as a delisted free agent, without compensation for Essendon.

Hibberd is managed by powerful player agent Paul Connors, who has previously stated that as a live option for other Essendon players.

Evidence of Essendon’s remedial work since the 2012 drugs saga would be considered by the tribunal and there is no guarantee Hibberd’s case would be successful.

Essendon chief executive Xavier Campbell said on Saturday that Hibberd was yet to nominate a new club, but it will almost certainly be Melbourne.

It is believed the Demons are preparing a lucrative four-year offer.

Incoming Dees coach Simon Goodwin said on Sunday that Hibberd would be a “big asset” in his halfback line.

“I’ve obviously coached him at Essendon, so I rate him extremely highly,” Goodwin said.

“He’s a quality backman who kicks the ball well and he is tough and brave and goes (at the ball) when it is his turn, so he has got a lot of important elements that a lot of clubs would like.”

Essendon coach John Worsfold said the club was yet to decide if it would pursue draft picks or players.

“We’ll have to see what interest there is in Michael from clubs and what they’re prepared to say he’s worth to them and go from there,” Worsfold said.

The Bombers and Demons quickly shook hands on a trade last year for Jake Melksham.

Melbourne handed over No.25 for the midfielder and Essendon believes Hibberd should command a higher price.

Hibberd, 26, finished eighth in last year’s best-and-fairest and fourth in 2014.

He would help replace Heritier Lumumba and add a touch of aggression and experience to the Demons’ backline.

Melbourne fielded the second-youngest team in Round 22.

The Demons’ public interest in Hibberd led to a spat between the clubs earlier this season.

The Bombers are expecting an answer from Jobe Watson in coming weeks but indications are he will play on.

Yeah, I don't think I'll miss him trying to bully others off social media just because he doesn't agree with their opinions (eg. mysainters).

I just miss Perse, austinn and Defacto. Defacto because he had a cool username, Perse because he seemed like a nice guy and austinn because he's French. Hopefully they return one day.

Fair call, I like Longer and I think he could develop into a Mumford type ruck but I just worry about his work around the ground, its an area he needs to work on. Lets hope he can an injury free season next year because its a good problem to have.

*** did the same thing last year. You say it often enough and people believe it.

Can't see how Hibberd is worth pick 27
Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole at that rate.
IMO it's just typical Essendon and Dodo trying to apply trade pressure via their well known media contacts like they did with us.
Yes, Slobbo, I'm talking about you
