Not sure credibility of footy prophet but ranks Mitchell at pick 17-23. How are we not going after him. Hartung ranked at late second early third pick.

Not sure where every players ranking would be. Be handy to actually know people's value. Players of interest in here seem to be what I think is a fairly inflated price.

Just curious as to people's thoughts. Cause it would seem. Pick 10 for Mitchell should get us change technically by this. I like it!

No that's not right. That's this year they're CP numbers were down compared to their previous years. The CP numbers have always been good, not necessarily elite (like Sydney), but they have awesome outside structures as well.

Goes back to what I said originally, you need balance. Bloke I was replying to said we need more focus on outside play & spread. I believe our outside play & spread is very good, it's the critical turnovers that kill us (every team for that matter). But to suggest we need more work on the outside play & spread is just not right. The amount of times we get our momentum smashed in games because we get beaten in CPs & clearance were huge this year.

Inside needs more work than outside without any doubt in my mind, BUT of whole structures & game plan needs to be better as a whole as well. That includes inside & outside, and defence set ups
No one is debating about balance .. that's a whole different topic to what I was pointing out.. we didn't lose the game because of CP's either.. that's just too simplistic to assume that's the only reason we lost those games. If contested possession is the be all and end all, why did hawks finish on top and bulldogs not win every game?

Why didn't you use the Swans & Geelong (1st & 2nd on the ladder) as your example? Or don't they suit your argument

I never said it was the be all & end all. I would argue that the reason we won 12 of our 22 games is because we have the ability to spread very very well when all things go right. No doubt it still needs work, but we need to win far more ball inside as a priority, then work on the outside stuff.

The 2 are 1 & the same. Elite teams do both at an elite level

Sooo all this talk about pick 10 being for certain players. Amazing. I'm sure we'd have to downgrade but could justify getting a second back with some of them. Also has e-mac at fourth rounder range. 55-60

Armo and 10 for 3 of Gold Coast's picks in the 20's (21,24,27).

Should land the Saints Steele (pick 27) and take the other to picks to the draft.

I don't need to suit any argument.. I'm giving you 2 very good examples whereby contested possession is not the main ingredient to be successful.. I think we have enough inside mids .. we need to look at outside runners as a priority.. we won most of our games thru sheer unrelenting pressure which counter acts the lack of winning contested ball. We were good against the contested ball kings in the bulldogs because we pressured them around the ball by not allowing them to handball thru traffic because the bulldogs usually have 5 or more players around the ball, and once they get their hands free you're stuffed against them once they spread.

Anyway I've made my point and made yours

On points that ranks Armo as a pick 17. Probably about right imo.
Given we have Dunstan and Ross in that position (and Acres and Steele) I dont mind this as an alternative option.

From my perspective - Nathan Freeman is a central factor in our recruiting stratgy.
If we think he is 80% of making it - then I would be focussing on getting Steele and maybe a Logue as well.
If we think Freeman is only a 20% chance of making it - then we should be trying to get Taranto or Venables as a priority.

Was thinking about this on the train home tonight. It gets very boring actually, just sitting there with nothing to do. I find it helps me have deep thoughts about my life and occasionally have a nap. But anyway, I reckon if we come out of this trade/draft period with our pick 10, Steele and next year's first round, I'll be pretty happy. No idea how we do it (I had switched thoughts to strangling the train driver for stopping for no apparent reason and potentially causing me to miss my bus* at this point) but I can definitely see the positives of a quieter trade period this year just stockpiling the ammunition before a raid next year when more juicy players seem to be available.

*I did end up catching the bus despite the best efforts of the train driver, if any of you were interested
