Wilson is an attacking option, who will only get better with AFL training loads.

Don't think he plays r1 but he's a handy depth option.
Wilson for Kelly in a few weeks could improve the balance of our defence.

Right now we have Talia, Hartigan, Doedee, Kelly...minimal skill on the rebound

Brown has actual skill but rarely uses it offensively. Laird a great player but more a distributor with short kicks.

So not one of our core back 6 can penetrate on the rebound.

Now we hoping a recast veteran mid, underperforming wingman or talented but softish forward can magically fill the void :frowning:

Left field options we may be forced to consider in the Smith role are Wilson or Keath. Murphy has the leg but that would put 3 small defenders in the mix...against your Richmond type forward lines that could work but it does leave us vulnerable to risky match-ups.

I noticed after the last goal of yesterdays game against Port that we only had 2 mids in with Sauce at that last centre square ball up.
Seems a very basic error, maybe that shows how seriously we were trying in the second half.
Yes I thought this as well. I think Sloane had a brain fade. From memory Gibbs and Crouch were in there

That’s why I’m leaning towards Gibbs as much as I want him in the midfield. CEY can play mid.

You are still underrating the Bull, outside of Laird easily our best defender again yesterday....I'd want to see a lot more of Wilson before I'd contemplate Kelly making way for him. The player with the skill set for replacing Smith is clearly Paul Seedsman IMO.

It's not that I'm underrating Kelly so much as being concerned for the poor balance of our defence...someone needs to make way.

In tough conditions playing in 34-degree heat, it was a great hit out for the 15 AFL listed players and 12 development squad members.
Paul Hunter, Matthew Signorello and Andy Otten were three AFL players who really stood up during the game.
Coach Ryan O’Keefe said that the game gave the AFL players a good foundation to build on.
“It was good for them to have a full hit out and give them something to keep building on from now until round one,” O’Keefe said.
The development players also impressed, with many of them playing their first game at SANFL level for the Crows, including James Loneragan and Doug Hadden.
O’Keefe said he was really pleased with what the development squad players brought to the team.

I did quite like Loneragan's game, the only issue that may hold him back is he's looking like Kyle Cheney V2.

If JJ's form doesn't come up & I doubt Tex plays round 1 on the hard Docklands surface, we may consider Otten, Gov & Fogerty as our 3 tall forwards...

We need to push for a midseason draft this year so we can bring in Doug. Kicked two, set up a couple, quick, provides pressure in the F50, a cult hero in waiting :D.

If we need to rely on a top up player to improve our list mid-season then we are in worst shape than I ever thought.
Doug my be a good player but our list managers and recruiters need their arse kicked if we lack that much player depth.

You want Gibson in our backline over Douglas.

I can only assume you didn't watch today's game...

Those bests of real concern with 3 out of 6 are fill in players along with Otten who showed too slow then Hunter who had average year in sANFL and long way from AFL and then Signorello who down in batting order in future mids behind Milera,Gallucci and Poholke.

And there seems to be an outright refusal to consider Seedsman or Hampton for that role for whatever reason. Seedsman in particular seems to be the absolute perfect Smith replacement to me.

The club seems to prefer him on the wing, and finds any reason under the sun not to play him at half back. Even Mackay’s general shitness and rag doll antics aren’t enough to earn Seeds a gig there.

As to why, I have no idea.

The reason is we have David Mackay and Richard Douglas who are "more versatile"

Been at my brother in laws joint all day scoffing down slow cooked ribs out of his smoker and watching the NRL... it was hard work..

On the drive home they said on the radio that Dangerfield had done a hammy in geelongs JLT game today??.. not sure how bad it is?... anyone have any further news?.. could put a dent in his Brownlow chances.

What round have we got Geelong?.. be good facing them without danger..

It was obviously all about rotations after half time. Greenwood had as many centre bounces as Sloane and Gibbs combined. That says a lot.

No.

Gibbs is here to improve the class of our midfield.

I doubt Pyke thinks differently. Much easier to score from the bounce than from defense.

CEY competes with Greenwood for that 5th mid spot.

HBF will need to be Douglas, Seedsman or Milera.
