Where did you see this injury list?

Gallucci didn’t look right in the Twos. I thought he came off limping in the last quarter but it may have been one of the top up players because he came back on later in the quarter. Did anyone else who was at Richmond Oval see this? Also, wtf is a foot strain? A rather vague description, ankle? archilles? PF?

Whilst Milera is no longer on the injury list, he is well short of peak fitness. Also no comment on the withdrawal of ROB and Davis from the Twos trial.

ATS somewhere between one and twelve players unavailable for Round one .

Herald Sun.

And there's the speed we are looking for too.

He's probably a more consistent, if less damaging kick than Smith
I think he’s a different kick to Smith. Brodie’s strength is his ability to break open zones by kicking over them, but his short passing can often be inconsistent. Wayne may not have the depth that Brodie does but his ability to kick 30-40m passes to advantage and split zones in that manner is outstanding.

I saw him get knocked over in the 3rd quarter and he was very slow to get up after.

There were a few instances of that in the SANFL trial that make you understand why he was tried out there. Had one terrific play where he managed to dance around 2 opponents and hit a quick 35 metre pass through the congestion and into the corridor that opened up the entire forward half of the field when the receiver got it.

Smooth moving great ball user. Playing Wayne off the back flank could be the making of the kid.
Will find some easier ball and doesn't need much of it to hurt the opposition.

It seems that Milera is one of those players who get better and better the less you see of him. We all desire what you do, but
he has done absolutely nothing to earn a recall to AFL level. He was dropped last year and has not shone since then, for whatever reason, including injury. He will have to learn how to defend, and will need to discover some effort and intensity before ascension, IMO. Most of us thought he was soft last year.

If he is selected for round one, then I think the AFC will have lost it. He needs to demostrate the required above characteristics in the SANFL for a consistent period before being picked.

It's his skillset that makes him the perfect replacement.

He's not ready yet that's for sure, but in 3 or so weeks time.....

Hmm. Because Smith is an intense defender lol.

The role of receiving out of defense and setting up the mids is perfect for Milera.

That's spot on.

It allows him to use his 3 biggest weapons.

Running at players, decision making and elite ball use.

He is without a doubt one of the best decision makers in the side and I have complete confidence in him eth the ball in hand coming out of half back.

It's the bit about getting the ball in his hand that needs plenty of work.

Agreed.

Smith and event Brent Reilly always put their heads over the pill and weren't/aren't afraid to go back with the flight. I see it in Wayne on the odd occasion but it needs to happen more.

Milera off half back is ideal. His agility and turn of speed is great, his kicking weighted beautifully. It's just the hard stuff such as defending and contested ball he really struggles with.

Smith isn't exactly a beast defensively, in fact he really struggles one on one. However he is always straight lines the ball when need be and is more than willing to jump into a one on one contest to intercept a mark; assuming he's in the right position.

Ideally our structure will be able to cover a player such as Milera, with multiple dour intercepting defenders in the back 6. He just needs to get his hands on the pill and deliver.

A beautifully waited pass back with the flight to a Brad or Gibbs at full stretch, before moving off and nailing Eddie, Gov or Tex on the lead... That'd be beautiful.

All this talk of Milera is exiting but scary at the same time. Ball in hand, hes a star but can he defend? Will he lose his player in traffic and concede goals?
Who cares if he plays im the 1st few rounds.
If the crows truly think thats his best position, we should let him play in the sanfl to learn his trade and then when he's ready. We can bring in a fit and confident Milera

We're pumping games into Milera as we rate him as a A+ talent, and we have a position open in the side for him. If we are serious about his development (and also doing well this season), he gets Smith's spot the moment he is ready to go; after all we're in need of a quick player with elite disposer there (and the sooner Milera gets comfortable there at the highest level, the better we do this season).

To leave him in the SANFL is very much a move to cut off your nose to spite your face.

Exactly. With ball in hand I trust him more than anyone on the list.

Honestly, it doesn't matter that much.

For the role that we want him to play, defense is very much the bonus, not the make or break thing. Much like Smith, the defensive structures is there to cover whatever weakness there is defensively.

As said previously, if we are serious about doing well this season, Milera needs games at HBF at the top level immediately as getting him acclimatized to the role at the highest level is one of the key things we need to do to be successful this season. Playing him in SANFL is only serving to waste valuable time seeing his offensive game is already sufficient which is the key condition of this role.

Getting the ball in your hand as a half back is just a learn structure things more then anything else though.

Not hard in Smith's role. How many hard ball gets does Smith get. He's a link player.

If we're looking at using our assets to maximum effect its the perfect role for Milera currently. And will give him scope to work on other aspects of his game.

I am in full favour of Milera in this role. He has the talent of Douglas and Dmac combined and its not a physical role. At 20 it could definitely make him and set him up for bigger and better...

Also a key point, half back is really one of the best roles (if not the best) for an aspiring outside midfielder.

Honestly, how much defending does a modern HBF do? They are link players. Exit outlets the defenders look for.

When the ball is in D50 you'll mostly see Smith running away from the contest expecting the receive, not getting sucked into it, which would be silly.

Fine, I'm still in the group that need convincing that's he's going to fully deliver at AFL level, and certainly at the lofty levels some have him reaching.
