Players with the best average contested ball stats so far 2017.
Dangerfield 19
Kennedy 17
B Crouch 17
Fyfe 16.6
Rockliff 16.6
Sloan 16.2
Oliver 15.6
Selwood 15.2
Wines 14.8
Cunnington 14.5
Pendlebury 14.4
T Mitchell 14.4
Martin 14

lots of others then.....
Steven 10.3
Ross 10.2
Steele 9.6 ( not bad IMO ).
Hickey 8.3 ( sorry don't know if i'll go far enough down the list to find Longer)
Dunstan 7.8 ( he's about as good as newcomer Tim Taranto ).
Billings 7.8 ( yes the same as Dunstan but gets more total disposals ).
Riewoldt 7.
Montagna 6.8
Bruce 6.8
Newnes 6.6

Coincidence that many of these are stars of the game.
Stuff it lets get Fyfe AND Rockliff.
Steven can take the handball and go bursting out with it.

I'll take two of those with our first rounders this year thanks.

Bugger that. There's 3 there that don't cost anything in trade so just throw the cheque book I say.

Sorry I meant find them in the draft. No way would I want to cough up a high pick for a FA.

We are going to be in an interesting position at the end of the season as we will have to drop probably 4 players at least off our list to bring in new draft or free agent players . Anyone have any suggestions who will be delisted ?
Holmes , Couglan , NOK , Pierce, Dempster already gone ,
that's about all I can think of . Shame to lose Couglan and NOK if they don't get a chance to play , but Pierce is in the Development team at the moment so I think he will be let go or traded if anyone wants him . Holmes may be kept for another year as a back up to Hickey and Longer . Holmes is probably the best tap ruckman we have but can't get a kick around the ground.

Any mids we get have to be in that 25year old plus range who are already established, not more young kids, this is for free agent I mean.

We need elite players not foot soldiers. I like zones but don't think he's worth what Sydney would want.
Ideally Whitfield for 2018 first and maybe a few later picks
Lever for our first and maybe a later pick
And rockliff as a FA
Or change Whitfield for hopper and rockliff for Martin maybe harder in the salary but I would assume it would bek. Draft best mid with hawks pick and win a premiership in 2018.

Just having a look through our list, it's going to be tough

Holmes (delisted) = Free agent
Dempster (retired) = Hawks first round pick (we'll likely trade one of these picks for a player IMO)
Wright (rookie listed) = Our first round pick
Hickey/Longer (traded) = Traded in second round pick and used in the draft

That would leave one more to be delisted so we can draft one more or more likely upgrade Marshall. Someone like Gilbert may be forced into an early retirement or we may have a shock trade for a future pick.

I really feel like this off season will define our current push for flag contention, if we can land an FA for free and nail what we do with our 3 available 1st rounders be that in trading or drafting, if we kill this period it'll give us so much more firepower going forward. Rockliff, Whitfield and a 1st rounder would be my ideal result, and if we nail that pick it's all of a sudden looking very rosey, let's hope we do.

I think Lever, despite being a gun and a half, shouldn't be our focus, as he'd cost a fair bit in draft picks when Roberton is currently playing that sort of role very very well, improving our midfield is a must as we all know.

I'd like to think that Brown and Stevens are out last 2 B grade players we trade in.

Time to add some cream. If current kids develop into A grade or elite then wow, we would be at GWS levels of talent.

If not then we will still be extremely competitive.

Clayton Oliver scares me so much on this list :( I was so high on him pre his major mock draft rank spike

He went rocketing up because he looked like something special though, I know **** all about kids at draft time and I said he'd be Dangerfield like. He looked like even went he didn't get things right he still made positive stuff happen. Even Caleb Daniel looked amazing as did Bont, it's just hard to know how amazing or how quickly they will hit their straps and what negatives might hold them back.

I don't mind Stevens as he will at least be a handy back up and at best he's that Stephen Powell type of handy mid rotation. Brown I'm still not sold on, he can hold the big guys for 3 quarters then the dam bursts and they kick what they would have on Dempster anyway. He's really just a stopper as well so doesn't really add anything once he's denied his player the ball. I would have preferred someone a little more mobile to play along side JC.
