Besides the fact that his first name is Jack, I don't see any point in that. Membrey, who plays a similar role is only marginally behind him in all the stats even though he is 3 years his junior. This includes goal kicking accuracy which is almost identical.

We already have our number 1 pick playing in the VFL, he'd cost a first round draft pick and would make it a lot harder to fit a quality mid in the cap.

And Battle is supposedly a similar type to Gunston.

I reckon you need some inside ability still even if you are predominantly an outsider. Not winning your own ball means we need to have guys who can win it for them, at the moment we are lacking in guys who can do that to a high standard so Whitfield would be looking much worse at St Kilda than he does at GWS. Kelly I reckon has much more of an inside ability so won't be shown ups as much.
yeah definitely, i just disagree about the two of them not having any ability to win their own ball. yes they're not the best out there but i don't think they're really as bad as you make out.
i also reckon they would be better if they left, just like every other gws player who has left for more opportunity. The competition for spots up there is bigger than anywhere else in the league, with so much depth i reckon it would be pretty hard to stand out on a regular basis. hence why Steele has gone from playing neafl with them to starting midfield with us.

Then we aren't using free agency properly. Fyfe would be pretty easy to match for Freo but they then have to keep a guy who has chosen to leave. Dusty would be easier financially as we could push Richmond's cap to breaking point as they are still paying for Deledio and got in Caddy and Prestia on good money.
Think you're right about this. Dusty could be pried out easier imo.

Good point. While I would marginally prefer Fyfe out of the two, I can't see Richmond getting near a 1.5 million dollar offer, which means he'd be free trade wise

Martin would end up pretty much same cost as Fyfe.

JB just asked Steele on the rush hour

"Which giant are you going to whack first"

His answer: "probably my old roommate Josh Kelly, hopefully he'll come play with us next year"

How good

Announced at the height of the Fyfe frenzy tht he had put off contract talks until after the season

Hmmmmm..........
Don't blame him. Fyfe domino falls and his opportunity skyrockets

If one of Fyfe or Dusty do choose to come to us, we might as well go all-in and then go really hard at a Whitfield/Lever, as Fyfe/Martin on their own are unlikely to make us an instant premiership team, but one of them and a Whitfield in particular or Lever just might, while Roo and joey are still going.

Plus, if we're going to be using up at least one first rounder on one of those last two, it leaves less for Freo/Richmond to demand if we have to trade for Fyfe/Dusty.

For instance, just say Fyfe nominates us and Freo match and GWS are willing to trade us Whitfield for a suitable offer from us. They will both be asking for our Hawthorn pick as part of the respective trades, so it allows us to work them against each other. The one who gives us the most attractive offer for that pick will be the one who gets it, whereas if we were only getting Fyfe, Freo could demand the Hawthorn pick and say our other 2017 first and it would be harder for us to say no, and they would feel less need to ever cave in on their demand.

Adelaide didn't get a good return for Danger because "Geelong didn't have much to offer", but that's only because Geelong got in early and traded their 2015 first for Henderson, resulting in Adelaide no longer being able to demand that pick.
