"Greater Western Sydney young gun, Josh Kelly has fronted the media today and as expected, there were plenty of question regarding his future.

The out-of-contact 22-year-old ball magnet has been the speculation of several trade rumours this year, most notably a $9 million, nine-year offer from North Melbourne.

But the former No.2 draft pick, said the constant reports on his future are not distracting him from his job on the field, nor is it putting extra pressure on him.

“It doesn’t weigh me down, I try not to think about it. I love playing footy here, it’s not causing an issue,” Kelly said.

However, he gave no indication of when he will make a decision on his future, admitting there are several things he must weigh up before making a call on whether to remain at the Giants or move back home to Victoria.

“I’m feeling no pressure. When the time is right it’ll be right,” he said.

“There’s a whole bunch of factors when it comes to making my decision.”

Kelly said at the moment he is focused on ensuring the Giants can achieve the ultimate success come the end of the season.

“We have come a long way, it’s a special group. Hopefully we will be able to do some damage at the end of the year,” he added.

Kelly had played every game this season, averaging a career high 28.5 disposals per game."

ROLL OUT THE RED CARPET JOSHY IS COMING HOME

Apparently the deal involves Josh changing his first name to Jack so there will be no confusion as to who he is. Apparently Richo has this mental issue that he can only call out certain names which is why Josh Bruce got dropped. Richo can only remember Jack and Jake . He calls Jade Jake all the time but nobody has corrected him yet. Josh Bruce has submitted the paperwork to get his first name to Jack as well. Hickey has done the same.

Have they officially come out and verified the claims?

Not having a go, just thought all that we have heard about North and their offers has been through the media and media speculation as well :thumbsu:

Yes of course the media announced it but it was a genuine offer from North.
$9 mill for 9 years. Pretty sure some spokesmen from their club have spoken about it earlie when it was first announced.
In our case it's been media speculation..."The Saints are apparently also in the race etc" with no definite facts or figures out there. Playing our cards close to their chests.

Any ruckman we draft is going to be 4+ years away from playing. If we wanted a backup (which I don't think we'd need) then we'd trade for one. But that defeats the point as any ruck worth having is going to cost as much as what we'd get from trading Hickey.

Correct , we can't trade Longer or Hickey - good sides need 2 rucks and we are lucky we have them - the problem is keeping them both happy. Also during the trade period we must keep our highest first rounder and get the best young talent for that pick .

I'd give our chances a 7/22.

Far too cryptic for me. I might have another beer and come back to it to see if I can work it out then

In the meantime I'm gonna believe we have jelly and fyfe

We can absolutely trade one of them. There wouldn't be many teams in the comp that have two decent rucks fighting for 1 spot. Most have 1 genuine #1 ruck and a few fringe backups or a forward who can ruck. With Marshall, Pierce and Holmes we have more than enough cover.

So you see no scenario where trading the Hawks pick is better than taking it to the draft? There are other ways to get 'the best young talent' that don't involve taking a player in the draft who will take 2+ years to actually produce a consistent high level performance.

Before posting this let me make one thing clear - I love Luke Dunstan, I haven't criticised him all year and I'm not going to, and I think he will be a terrific player for a long time. But if we were looking at Lever from Adelaide, would we consider trading Dunstan and a possible future 2nd rounder for him? Seems low on confidence and falling out of favour, on the fringe being in and out of the side over the last month. Is a South Australian and would fit in well with the Crows midfield in my opinion. Could be the fresh start he needs.
Lever is worth more than that.

So far this is what our 2018 premiership side looks like.

Geary may lever
Webster Carlisle roberton
Kelly Martin Whitfield
Billings Riewoldt Steven
Gresham McCartin membrey
longer acres*captain) Fyfe
Ross newnes hopper Shenton

Looks alright
Err... wot? o_O

That's why I wouldn't trade Hickey . In 2015 Longer was the ruckman , he got injured so Hickey got his chance and took it . Was great for us last year . This year Hickey lost corn and got injured Longer taken back the job . What will happen next year ? I'd rather have Hickey here than relying on players who aren't up to it or don't have the experience. If Longer gets injured or loses form then we can throw Hickey back into the ruck and not lose out much .

Unless your ruckmen is Nic Nat then going in with your backup option isn't then end of the world.
