Yes of course the media announced it but it was a genuine offer from North.
$9 mill for 9 years. Pretty sure some spokesmen from their club have spoken about it earlie when it was first announced.
In our case it's been media speculation..."The Saints are apparently also in the race etc" with no definite facts or figures out there. Playing our cards close to their chests.

Well, channel 7 announced last night that the saints offer was similar worth 1m+ and also for 8-9 years. Followed by saints interest in Gold Coast's May.

PS there should be some logic to separate threading after 1, 2, etc. eg each month during the season, followed by finals period, pre trade, during trade, post trade pre-draft, post draft, etc. or just a page limit, ie 50 pages and done.

If Hickey goes that means our backup first ruckman is either Marshall, Holmes or Pierce . Marshall is still unproven and raw . Holmes and Pierce struggled in the vfl so far . Longer is improving but what if he gets injured then we are screwed. We need a new ruckman hopefully we can draft one.

Got to remember everyone was saying Longer was struggling in the VFL before being elevated. Holmes is a very good tap ruckman & has played at the top level, so knows what to do to give us first use of the ball. Haven't seen enough of Pierce to give an opinion, still....think we are ok.

Got to be Hickey.
He is definitely the player with the best currency on the fringe of the 22.
He's no fool and I'm pretty sure the club would have indicated to him that they will be going with Longer as first ruck. I would imagine there's no way he wants to hang around playing in the VFL. With him being contracted too means the control is all in our hands. Would be a win/win for the Hick and the club if they have decided Longer is the way they want to go, which appears apparent right now.
Its Dunstan. Contracted and the club won't trade for peanuts, but Lever (who is uncontracted) is the main point of discussion. Just a matter of satisfying both parties, however the fringe 22 location Dunstan now finds himself in is offset somewhat by Levers contract status.

We will undoubtedly have to pony up but getting back a favourite SA son with no issues of home sickness into a midfield which Adelaide have openly tried to trade up in quality will be an enticing starting point for Adelaide to consider for an out of contract star junior.

If Dunstan is a fringe player at St Kilda, you'd imagine he'd be a SANFL player at Adelaide.

Normally I'd agree but not with their midfield.
They literally have curtly hampton and cam ellis yolmen as first choice mids.

Brad crouch can't stay on the park, they need mid depth which dunstan is.

But so do we.
So it wouldn't be a fire sale, it would take adelaides first rounder (pick 16-18?) to get it done.
Anything less and we'd keep him I'd think.
Unless we needed to dump his contract for cap space for a couple of elite mids?

Say a club came to us desperate like Brisbane and said I have Shache wanting home and pick one on the table for a partially developed forward no club is going to walk away with out sniffing the offer first.

I would say the only untradables are probably Jack Steven, Newnes, Ross and then probably Billings, Roberton, Acres and Gresham in the nearly un-tradeable list, I reckon everyone else would be possible to get if crazy offers came in or just unlikely anyone would want.
Gringo stop bashing your head.
For the record, what your saying about Paddy is true. He shouldnt be seen as untradable as much as the next sainter is seen as untradable.
In reality the chances of him requesting a trade or club forcing are very low. Close to 0. Atm his trade value is higher than his output no doubt but with any luck that will dramatically change in the next coming years. Or so the club and all of us hope.
However the club did draft 2 more developing key fwds after they already had Bruce and Paddy... Depth or Conspiricy? Who knows. All the talk seems that they love him. He loves us and its doubtful a crazy offer (like top 3 or 800) will come his way before his on field output dramatically rises. Contracted till the end of next season.

This is exactly right but we will be pushing for Lever as a known commodity. Channel 7 news in Adelaide last night said that he is about to sign a multi-million multi-year deal but his manager has made it known to media outlets, including Sam Maclure, that this is nowhere near correct and is still a long way off.

Discussions havent even been held between player and club yet.

I agree, i think if we offered a future first and dunstan with thier 3rd coming back. With Lever being ooc and all theyd probably take it.

So what's the chances north up their offer on the back of the news last night? Considering what they're offering dusty it would be a possibility. Say they do, would we go again or are we running out of cap to play with (assuming other targets are signed)?

What's the extent of this war chest? Is it possible that may, lever, Kelly, Fyfe all come over on commensurate to their talents coin?
Is this why rooey and monty contract talks might be awkward?

would a group of these FA's be in contact with each other in the hope they all land on the same team - ala NBA.

I reckon you can put players into 3 categories those that improve your chance of winning a flag, those that hinder your chances and those that do neither - depth.
These 4 all improve the chances.
That's like 20% of the team!

I like the idea of this , banding together . But I think as individuals they would be seeking the best for themselves . And rightly so

if we can beat the hawks in their prime/dons/dogs/blues for carsile then I'm not scared of north for jelly.

Interesting question.
I'd say 1.3mil × 7 is close to (if not) our best and final offer for a guy like kelly.
Anything more than that and we'd pass I think.

Maybe we'd counter by including more performance incentives?
Ie win a brownlow, get another money truck etc.

If I could choose 1 saints win for any of the remaining games. It would be against the Roos on Friday night. For the love of god boys get up and about for that one.

And someone get J.kelly a seat at Etihad to watch it.

Presumably beating the pants off gws the other week didn't hurt our chances with jelly.

If i could choose 1 game to win it would be against freo.
Beat the pants off them- then get joey into nat fyfes ear post game like he did with jelly!

Do whatever we can to get Kelly. He suits our needs to a tee. Offer him 1.5+ over 7 years with performance based incentives, offer GWS 2x first rounders and a second, if not more and get him on board.

He's the second best player in the league right now IMO, and will likely be the best for the rest of his contract.
