The longer it goes the more chance we are of losing Billings dont like that its round 12 coming up and he not signed up
Not ideal, it was clear he/manager was waiting for form spike so they could get a better deal.

He's improved, so hoping he signs one soon.

Club potentially planned for smaller deals to shape trade plans. Same situation with Robbo/JWeb. Was reported Robbo and club were a little way of on numbers.

Good point. Who are the young kids more to the point

Even mores to the point we dont even know what the first rounders will land.

Only thing guaranteed is that Kelly is a star.

And what is overpaying for him? Boyd 7 mill over 7 years but instrumental in a Bulldogs flag.
Everyone reckons Dogs overpaid. Ask a dogs supporter if it was too much.

Ask them when he costs them Johanissen and he's still in and out of the team.

I definitely believe we could make top 4 next year if we add Kelly. Especially if we add say a Zac Jones with him, which I think would be entirely doable.

Then we'd have all of Kelly, Billings, Acres, Jones, Dunstan and Freeman going into their 5th seasons and hitting 23yo, Paddy, Goddard, Sincs, D-Mac and Lonie going into their 4th, Gresh, Rice and White going into their 3rd, and Long, Marshall and Battle with a 2nd preseason under their belts.

Huge potential for improvement and growth amongst that lot, with some of them getting through that all-important 50 game mark. Even Membrey hasn't played 50 games yet. Nor has Longer. Webster has only just crossed it.

I had Pies mates who were sure that all they needed was Treloar and they were a top 4 side.

Yes how sad if they lose him but win their first flag in 62 years

That's fine, he played his best game in a GF, but I'm pretty sure it's a team game. Johanissen was the Norm Smith medalist and rather than have a dynasty Boyd might make them a one hit wonder. I still think Boyd was a mistake.

I don't either (except for North, they like to tag and have both Jacobs and Dumont), but I would still ideally like to know how he would handle it before I upped my offer by a mil or two though.
He was tagged by Greenwood in the second half v Collingwood. Josh still got plenty of ball

One hit wonder? Who cares. Not long time wb supporters. If we win a flag we can finish last fit the next 20 years for all I care

Seriously, you want to know other peoples opinions and share your own and your labeled a troll . Thanks mate

Like everyone on here i dont know what our club intends doing and how they will trade and pay for any player we looking at.
I didnt label, I asked.

We have been told constantly that the club has forward loaded contracts to get even min 95%, the CEO comrs out and says we have 1.6 mill to spend rxtra in the cap, but suddenly we arent going to be able to sign our current players.

Where does this stuff come from? Honestly.
In thr face of all available evidence, tnis is the reason for not getting Kelly, even tnough this is exactly the strategy set out to members by Pelchan 4 years ago.

Opinions are welcome. Opinions based in fact are even more valued.

Why is it a flaw? Come on do some maths please. You want to win the flag as per the St Kilda Plan BY 2020.

If you take Paddy and Billings as models for how players might progress then your two picks next year may be able to contribute little to achieve such a flag.

Billings is in his FOURTH year and now looks to be coming good.
Paddy is in his THIRD and is not yet ready.

And they were picks 1 and 3. Our picks this year may well be Pick 5 and 10, or even later.

Our two players in the 2017 draft would be in their THIRD years in 2020. So if they track at the rate of Paddy and Billings they will not be assisting us in winning a flag by 2020 by any huge degree.

Whereas Kelly is a low draft pick who is an OUTPERFORM. In 2016 he will be in his prime. He would very much be making a significant contribution.

If your goal is to win a flag by 2020 you need more players who capable of playing career best football by then, and not more may just be starting to arrive by then.

The club has been planning to bring in some guns about now fora while and has freed up the salary cap space to do it. Wheres yes in 2009/210 Lyon had a list hamstrung by GT's paying overs for to some players. Bains has factored all of this in.

You have also forgotten that we have LESS stars at present and so their is less cash demand at present. That by itself means that their is space for players like Kelly.
I agree with if you up to a point, if you think you are in a position to win then a proven young gun is the way to go.

However you could just have easily used Kelly himself or bontempelli as examples that would make things a bit interesting, proven gun versus young talent.

The salary cap is in great shape now but don't forget thanks to the afl nanny state we are still paying 95% of the cap so talent doesn't really come into it.

There is still the central question to be answered, are we in a position to bring in enough talent to win by 2020.

My family could not give two hoots. They are still playing the GF DVD.

Only thing that matters is the flag and Boyd with his 3 goals and ruck work was a big part.

Anything else is noise.

Hopefully, we have that talent already in JB, Paddy, Acres etc that by 2020 are going to be really hitting their straps...aside from anyone else we may bring in.
