If jelly were to nominate us, the best and final price we offer gws isn't decided ENTIRELY on previous trades.

It's a case of things arent worth what they cost...they are worth what you are willing to pay.
I think the treloar deal is a reasonable apples and apples situation with jelly, although jelly has shown higher potential than treloar at his age... so he's worth a bit more.

So start with the treloar value (2 firsts with a 2nd back) and add:

*pies weren't AS desperate for treloar as we are for jelly (they had sidey pendles swan(?) etc).
Gws can and will use our desperation to fill our grand canyon midfield hole against us.

*pies had treloar sewn up pretty well, didnt have massive legit competition.
If we try and play real hardball with gws; dragging out the trade, norf will be right there to tell kelly THEY can get a deal done... change your nomination... like what nearly happened with jake and hawks.
*lack of other options in the marketplace currently or next year. It's basically dusty, jelly or bust for us at the moment. It will be considered a big failure for us if we can't spend the enormous cap space we have cleared.
Sure 2 young guns is a good long term fallback- but we're trying to win a flag in the next few years.
If/when dusty and fyfe re-sign- gws get a stronger bargaining position if jelly wants out.

2 firsts IS overs.
But acceptable overs.

Especially when you remember if it is say pick 4 and 8... we have only SPENT picks 10 and 8 on him, plus chuck in battle and long for free.

We don't have that luxury to drag trades out too much (playing hardball) without nominees getting worried and reconsidering...see jake.

I don't doubt how good he is and yes the pies have their own appeal being such a big club.

The pies have been very quite, I know they really screwed up last off season but it' hard to think they won't find a way to get into the race for a few of these players.

I just hope the saints keep improving, who knows Kelly might just stay at GWS.

Hawthorn has GWS's 2nd rounder. GWS have ours & Pies 2nds (currently picks 25 & 26)

Also worth noting that due to a 1000 draft points penalty, GWS's 1st rounder is currently a voided pick, ie: it's been removed from the draft. At present, GWS's first pick in the draft is our pick 25 (for Jack Steele last year)

Brisbane Lions number 2 draft pick Josh Schache has re-signed with the club - after much speculation regarding whether he would return to Victoria.

The key forward will remain a Lion until the end of 2019.

As good as he is, the kid is no Dangerfield that can carry a team on his shoulders week in week out plus eat away 1+ million of our salary cap.

I'd target someone like Z.Jones (exactly what we need as well to replace Montagna) and another youngish player looking to move from GWS etc.

If even one of those picks turned out to be as good as Kelly we would be lucky.

What is the strike rate for picking 200 game gauranteed stars in the first round, improving but I doubt it's better than 50%.

So playing the odds you take Kelly every time.

Brisbane have been doing a song and dance around player retention if sache had walked it would have been a really bad look for them.

Rockliff for a high compensation pick would imho look better to them now.

Remembering he is a RFA it's much easier to sell to members and might suit their plans.

More likely that a pick in the 20's doesn't turn out to be a gun/fail than a pick in the top 10.

Dont think we would have the money/picks to get both this season.

I don't think we need to show our supporters that we can get a genuine gun. We showed that we can get Carlisle over the line when we need a certain type of player to improve us. Yes Kelly would improve us, but i wouldn't sell the farm to get him.
