Heard on good authority that Carlton have put a huge Spanner in the works regarding Kelly.

3-4 months ago I wrote Kelly was done. But Carlton wont go away and have upped the offer considerably compared to us. Its a genuine 50/50 at this stage. He's leaving.

Carlton have always caused us grief why should it stop now. Pay what ever it takes Saints!

Regardless, I think we will all still have a ball with the norf supporters if he ends up with us or carlton....

No offence but this seems strange. Why would Kelly's management accept an offer in June full well knowing there would be other offers coming later on in the year?

It seems very amateurish for them to do that.
I would suspect unless there was a verbal agreement (see sentence above for incredulity) our recruiting team would have taking the other offers in as a factor and have a contegiency.

All seems very improper.

Get kelly and Whitfield for our 3 firsts 2 this year and 1 next year. I dont care we need run and speed.
Then get rocky via FA.and have a look at trengrove perfect second ruck and or menziel or anyone else with class and foot skills.

We need speed, foot skills ( hitting targets) and a genuine second ruck. Anything else is irrelevant
Hickey for Goldstein.

Yeah i agree this information is all coming from one of the players best mates same guy gave me Dempster cracked the shits information.

I'm not sure we should throw the kitchen sink at Kelly. I don't think we have nailed the re-build. And I think we should continue to get into the draft with draft picks. I think we should hold our top 2 and trade players out for more picks. Really need speed and elite kicking injection in the club. As for the rest of the year, bring some kids in (Rice if fit). The fact we have not got a rising star nomination is a worry.

Has no relevance to were we are it is a non issue award, supporters perspective is we do need Kelly that is part of our missing rebuild you say we need speed and skill he has it in bucket loads and we avoid the 3 year wait he is needed.

Carlton arent that bad. They are tanking. Watch them push up hard next year.

Carlton are us two years ago. They still heavily rely on Marc Murphy, Kade Simpson, Krusier and Bryce Gibbs.

I agree they aren't that bad and expect them to be in the top half of the bottom 8 next year but they aren't exactly flying.

Oh no, i would rather he goes to North than Carlton if we don't get him.

I followed this up with my Carlton mate today; he said the Blues have upped their offer & are happy to give up pick 1 for Jelly

if its a straight swap for Kelly?

That's an interesting question, JB has been huge for us this year and letting him leave would be very hard to take. If we want to eventually challenge for top honours we need to retain our best players (which billings is absolutely one of) and add to it/develop our lesser players. It's very rare that shipping off your best players assists in winning flags. (Obviously there are exceptions, but for sustained success we need to keep what we have and add to it).

I'd love Kelly, more so than any player in recent memory but at the expense of JB, I'm not as convinced.

I wasn't that impressed with jelly at first, he doesn't blow you off the park like some guys do, but having just watched him for the past few weeks I've been won over.

This kid is exactly what we need, he is quick and skillful but he has a big tank and works so hard to get to the next contest.

This is what separates him from the rest, like a Harvey or Riewoldt when you add that tank to talent it's a great mix.

I don't know what the club has in mind but of the available players he is the one for us imho.

Yeah , i'm a bit the same, what is the point of throwing the kitchen sink at Kelly if we aren't going to reward our self developed players enough to make them want to stay.

No he's not. While he's not elite , he wins contested possessions.
This stat is mostly ignored in favour of the more simple. "total disposals".
But if you let the other team get the ball in front of you its worse than a turnover. You've turned it over before you even get it.
A player like Clinton Jones if he has 50% turnovers is better for the side than one who allows his opponent to get the ball.

StKilda do not have a player who is "elite" at winning the contested ball.
Armitage and Steven have a history of winning a good bit of it , with the occasional elite game.
Steele has potential to be one, but ( and he's bloody young remember) he's not consistent at all.
Stevens is also not consistent, but has shown he can get in and to the job.

Dunstan has not had a great contested game since his third game ever. He's the depth.
Stevens and Dunstan have the same problem inconsistency it's not really important who ends up depth. They have more value to us then in a trade we need depth good teams have depth. I was extremely pleased we picked up Stevens because teams have injuries if he holds his spot ahead of others fantastic. I also think Stevens is a more flexible player then just an inside mid.

Steele, Stevens, Dunstan (since returning) and Ross is not our problem. Our problems are lack of a fast running half back, Bruce contested marking and goal kicking, lack of marking options out of defense, a fast pressure forward, Acres lack of consistency, Gresham needing to develop, Brown being as fast and agile as a battleship.

Can't believe it. Melbourne of all clubs has broken my resolve.

Feel so ******* flat about the club and where we're going.

Hope Billings and Steele win a flag in their career. Love both of them.

Jeez I reckon I'd done for the year

thats st kilda for you mate. the feeling will pass. we'll smash norf on the weekend and everything will be right with the world

Chin up fella.

Things are never as good as they seem, nor as bad.

Don't get sucked into the notion of continual improvement. It is not always linear. This year, purely from a wins/loss perspective can be seen as a disappointment. But I would argue we are an improved team from last year but didn't make the leap into finals. We are now less reliant on veterans and our kids are starting to take the reigns. A passing of the torch and we should start seeing an improvement in wins and losses next year as our players get more experienced and become better leaders.

Jelly will win a brownlow at StKilda when we are top 4.
