Contested marking is gold, strong marking sides are better able to control the pace of the game.

We aren't helped by poor delivery but we aren't great in the air, with a few exceptions like Carlisle.

When we were last in contention we were good in the air.

If we miss out on Kelly, and end up with picks 7 & 8. which option would you take?

A. Take 7 & 8 to the draft?

B. Trade them both for pick 1 or 2?

C. Trade one with Brisbane for picks 13 and 18, take other to draft.

D. " " " Richmond " " 15 & 16.

E. Both C & D giving us 4 1st round picks?

Nice to have options .
Option C .....trade with Brisbane and hopefully on trade pick 13 to GWS for Hopper and hit the draft with pick 7 and 18 .

Good question, but a hard one to answer without more info.

I reckon if we were trading say 7 and 8 for 1, 2, or 3 we'd want a pick around 20 coming back, even if we had to add a bit more to 7 and 8.

On the other hand, if we have pick 7 there's a pretty decent chance that we'd be able to get one of Rayner, LDU, Cerra, Stephenson or Dow with that pick- if Coll and Freo have picks before us and grab say Brander and Fogarty. Get any of those 5 at 7 and I'd be very happy with that result.

Then with the other pick it might work out well to trade it for two mid teens picks and use one of them on a "KPD" and the other for someone with ideally speed and skill, either in the draft, or through a trade (eg. A Hall).

There could be lots of options available to us, including getting Rayner, if Kelly goes to Carlton and GWS end up with pick 1. They apparently don't rate the very top end of the draft that highly, but rate the first round overall, so may prefer two picks around 7/8 to say pick's 1 and 20.

Richmond are looking for a key forward...would they take Bruce?
Would we get one of their first rounders for him given its a weak draft?

and then back Paddy, Marshall and Paddy to rise and fill the spots left by Nick and Bruce?

With the continuing serious question marks over both Paddy and even Hugh we need the likes of Bruce to stay.

Part of me wants to trade Bruce whilst his value is somewhat high. He lacks footy nous & is an absolute cluster **** when kicking for goal even from the bloody goal square....but we do structure up far better with him in the side. The question is do we have enough confidence in Marshall fulfilling a similar role?

Bruce definitely trade bait if the right offer comes along. Far from 'untouchable' imo.

What did someone say in the game day thread yesterday, something like Bruce is a walking meme? Harsh but pretty spot-on after some of the stuff we saw this season.

Can we make finals next year with only one experienced AFL tall forward in Members? McCartin, Goddard and Marshal are promising but it's a massive leap of faith to think they'd be consistent contributors.
Plus with Richo's head on the chopping block next year i can't see them doing it.

Walking meme lol. He's our Casboult, unfortunately. He's become a joke.

True...know what you mean. Just thinking maybe we need to take a risk to try and get that extra something this off season to improve us next year, and hopefully we could back marshall in to get 30 odd goals...

What is it with bruce now? 2015 when he got 50+ he was one of the most accurate set shots in the comp i thought.

Would you pull the trigger for De Goey ?

Something in the back of my mind is saying Big Hugh Goddard is gonna end up a forward.

Bruce is no super star however he is a elite athlete and if you watch him play he is always running and applying pressure , the guy is value and we only need people to deliver the ball better and he will be better, him and Skunk are our only true tall forwards until the young guys mature and come of age . Ok he has not had a good year but most of the team has not been great,

Your logic is based on two Paddy's - whack! Give the bloke a bone. Josh Bruce's on a roll and staying home...

Agree 100%. I've never doubted the blokes commitment & endeavour. He's a trier. A workhorse. An athlete. A team player. Bleeds for the club. All of the above. But he's not a footballers arseh*le. No disrespect intended.

Certainly tradeable but only if
A: we have confidence in Marshall fulfilling his role
B: we get a very very good offer (I'm not gonna say an offer we cannot refuse cos everyone is tradable under those circumstances)

Didn't the not a footballers arseh*le kick over 50 goals one year. He is much better than that and I reckon that's a little poor form.
