Everyone is entitled to their opinion .... I myself look at the last three trade periods and the last two draft periods, then if ..... IF (which I don't) have any doubts I remember Rogers being rogered by * over the Boek trade ( %£#** shameful), and his apt trading!

Say what you like about SOS ..... pick holes in what he has done if you like ......

But seriously please tell me what list manager has done better the last three years?

The man is Captain Carlton on Roids!

I know I will get slammed because it's like shooting Bambi but I really wish SOS didn't go after Adelaide's 16 and instead just went for their future second. We could have still got all our trades done bar upgrade 40 to 30 and probably a 3-4 pick upgrade in the 40's next year.
I think though the difference between pick 21~ and pick 27~ (Dogs pick which I expect will be closer to 30) in next years "super draft" would have been alot more benefit to us. It would have gave us a hell of a lot better chance to find another gun player then what we have given ourselves.

Anyway we done bloody well so I'm happy
In the end I hope we pick up some good players.

Btw given your poster name, you’d have to be a big Fogarty fan. :D

Every year they say next year is a super draft. I love how SOS isn't waiting around for these supposed super drafts. He makes the most of every draft period and gets super players even after our first round picks, as he has the last 2 years. Keen to see what diamond he pulls out of the rough with pick 30, we already know pick 3/10 will be gold!

I think he may have well had one eye to the future also, given we now have 2 second rounders next year.
That's a good outcome as even at this early stage, it doesn't seem as though we'll have any collateral to trade with.

Any chance we can come last with only 4 wins and pick up a first round priority pick, giving us one and two in the draft? :)

So far the SOS/Bolton partnership has;

Turned lazy/disruptive/cancerous players into high draft picks (Menzel/Henderson/Yarran)

Moved on serviceable, well liked foot soldiers who many wanted to keep, getting excellent returns for them (Bell/Tuohy)

Got 2 first round picks for a 29 year old (Gibbs)

Payed big unders for new recruits using creative negotiating, some of which will be 200+game stars for the club (Plowman/Marchbank/Kennedy/Pickett)

Filled holes with smart, cheap (sometimes getting a better deal for taking them on) trades and DFAs (Wright/Lamb/Kerridge/Sumner/Lang)

Drafted serious top end talent in Weitering, Mckay, Curnow, Cunningham, SPS

Struck mid/late draft gold in Williamson, Fisher, Silvagni, Polson, Kerr

Turned Liam Jones into an elite KPD (I know right)

Got career best season's out of veterans in Kruezer, Murphy (arguably), Gibbs, Simpson (2016) Casboult

Managed to get Levi kicking somewhat straight (miracle workers)

All the while seeing young starts such as Cripps and Docherty grow into amazing players and leaders. Not sure if we realise what we have got here. What a turnaround from the Malthouse tears where i had my heart broken and almost fell out of love with this great club

You can bet one of those 2nd rounders will be earmarked for Ben, in case a rival club wants to try and pinch him! ;)

I can picture * making a play for him, just to f*** with us.

Great summary mate. Just liking this post wasn't enough! :)

And we're still just 44 games into the 66 game rebuild.
Feels great to know that we finally have people who know what they're doing calling the shots. :thumbsu:

Forgot to add the fact we once 2 picks inside 10 this year, and with SOS having a strike rate to rival Chris Gayle, we shoul be able to add a few more guns to that list. Feels great to really be back in love with my footy club. Has meant so much for so long, amd although I never stopped, the dark years made it very hard. I honesty think we will look back one day and just think "Wow, how did they turn that into this"

I go with Hickmott. Can play midfield. Brother to come.

Penrith reportedly has average disposal and his best trait is tackling.
Probably penrith as a cat b rookie. However if we nominate hickmont and no one bids, we can take him as a rookie too.

Therefore pick 73 can become someone else, or not used but the list spot taken by a DFA.

I was thinking the same Harks, but with the transformation of Jones and apparent depth of tallish defenders, would this be an area SOS would look at if helped net a Lynch?

Ask yourself this, would you trade Pick 40 + '18 2nd Rd for pick 30 + '18 2nd crows and '18 2nd Dogs. I know I would every day of the week
See I wouldn't because 40-30 is a good upgrade but if it is a weak draft it will probably be all speculative picks anyway.
Our 2018 third and Adelaide's 2018 second will probably be a 3-4 pick upgrade from the late thirties to the mid thirties which doesn't mean much either.
If next year really is a "super draft then our pick 21 could have been huge for us and I would prefer that that over the dogs late twenties pick every day of the week.

So yes I would prefer pick 40 over 30 this year and
21 and 39 over 27 and 35 in next years "super draft"

Anyway we have ended up in a better position after every trade period SOS has been in charge so I'm still happy

Your scenario is only taking 1 possible outcome into perspective.

You are basically judging the finish result of this year as the finish result of next year.

I think Adelaide will struggle to win the flag. I think people are undervaluing the contribution of Lever and Cameron to that side. Gibbs will improve their midfield, however their midfield was already dominant this year. So they have strengthened an area people perceived as weak when it wasn't at the expense of defence and forward.

I think Dogs will struggle next year. I think they're a candidate for bottom 6. Let's not forget how they won games out of their arse early this year when they sat at 5-2.

Carlton will improve. I think they could easily finish above the Dogs or no more than 1-2 spot below.

So we could easily have

40 -> 30 this year
24 -> 26 next year
42 -> 33 next year

That is basically saying:
Adelaide 4th
WBD 10th
Carlton 12th

Adelaide and Dogs could quite easily finish below those positions too

I much much much rather take that gamble than the gamble of all 3 sides finishing in the exact same position 2 years in a row

I think SOS has one a year, Last year Tuohy, this year Gibbs ... (and several to kickstart the reset: Bell, Menzel, Henderson and Yarran).

I was thinking the same Harks, but with the transformation of Jones and apparent depth of tallish defenders, would this be an area SOS would look at if helped net a Lynch?

I don't know if it's just me, but I would question the value of pursuing a power forward like Lynch.
He would cost us a frickin' fortune, and for what? How many finals/grand finals recently have been dominated and decided by the presence of a power forward?
I would rather see our club develop multiple goal kickers in the tall-medium range (like Harry, Jack and Charlie) supported by a range of dangerous small forwards and goal kicking mids. Much harder to stop on a given day. How do you contain them all?

And when that big forward you've invested so much in and built your structure around goes down with a serious knee injury or succumbs to mental health issues... what then?
