Oooh that late pick gives us some interest. A Hine special is on the cards. Could it be Marlion Pickett? Or is that all a bluff for some other WA kid? I like the intrigue.
Yeah hard to know, I'd love to take a punt on a kid who's had a bit of bad luck but has huge upside. At that pick a low-risk, high-reward type player. Could well be 80s, so can't expect much, a free hit essentially.

Pardon my ignorance but what will the Crows do at 13?

I think they'll trade up anyway. Don't think we've got the actual draft order established as yet.
Their pick 13 could easily be 15 if a couple of bids come in as well for other academy/FS prospects.

He does look the goods Pickett as a mature age product but not sure a 26yo 6 foot midfielder is really a need for us right now. Especially with the addition of Beams, Sier coming into his own and Wills still in the background. Wonder why neither GC or Carlton had a crack at him as a state league signing.

That's more of a Snoop Dog question as he's closer in regard to the club. I chat to the enemies/media/player families haha.

Wouldn’t surprise me. Spoke to a few people yesterday close to the AFL Academy and I think he and Jack are mentioned in similar regard. I think Jack is probably best tall I’ve seen for many years.

Yeah imagine if we lost Kelly because of it.

I think Adelaide are going to make a few enemies out of this draft. I received an email from Kieren Briggs' dad last night telling me the GIANTS have told them the Crows are going to bid for him which is why he's now coming to Marvel Stadium.

The Crows had better prepare for when Luke Edwards comes round in two years, I tell you what.
Why would you be unhappy about getting good players our club rates with a 10% discount using a combo of later picks?

Warning: Confusing, long and possibly inaccurate post! Lol but you will get the gist.

I'm going to have a crack at looking at what points we might need to match bids on IQ and Kelly as per Callum Twomey's mock.

This is on the back of bids for Blakey (8) and Thomas (9) coming in before IQ (15) and then Briggs at (24) in before Kelly (25).

Blakey at 8 Swans need (1551 points minus 20%) = 1240 points. Swans lose pick 26 (729 points) and 33 (563) = 1292 points (52 point excess add to later pick)

All of our picks now move forward 2 spots. now 39, 42, 55, 57, 58

Thomas at 9 Roos need (1469 points minus 20%) = 1175. All of North previous picks would have come forward 2 spots also. North lose pick 40 (429 points), 45 (347 points), 46 (331) and 47 (316) = 1423 (248 point excess add to later pick).

Our picks would then be 39, 41, 53, 55, 56

IQ at 15 we need (1112 points minus 20%) = 890. We lose pick 39 (446), 41 (412) and 53 (233) = 1091 (201 point excess add to later pick).

We are left with 55, 56 and 201 points

Briggs at 24 Giants need (785 - 197) = 588. Giants lose adjusted pick 28 (677).

We are left with 54, 55, and 201 points

Kelly at 25 we need (756 - 197) = 559. We lose 54 (220), 55 (207). We then need to use 132 off our 201 points left over.

We are now left 69 points or equivalent pick 67 for our last list spot. We either use that on a smokey or match a bid for Atu B.

This last pick would be enough to match a bid on Atu coming in from pick 50 onwards.

We wouldn't be able to match Kelly if you bid on both in the first round. You would get him.

Lets only panic if the panic arrives

Seems pointless energy sapping exercise if it's not needed at the end.

Why?

Because we have traded away our 2019 1st round selection and it's against the rules?

If you are basing your assumption on points deficit then going by this article http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-08-12/afl-closes-draft-bidding-system-loophole (granted from 2015) we would presently have 741 season 2019 points up our sleeve on top of this years 1260.

Total 2001 points.

So if for example Adelaide were to bid on Quaynor at 13 (bid matched) and then Kelly immediately after at 14 by my calculations that would equate to 1898pts after the 20% discount so we could acquire both players.

Folks

Ok let’s assume we are taking

Quaynor (what a great name by the way) and f/s Kelly.

Assuming we likely have another pick down back who will it be?

  • Stick your necks out....

I’ll go for Noah Gown simply based on a key sized player who might be available and shows talent (by what I’ve heard and read).

Pie 4 Life Snoop Dog Knightmare

Few I would like;

Gown would be one for sure along with Jack Mayo from WA. Tall forward type.

Jack Ross is a mid from Oakleigh but I suspect they will look in other place.

I think some interesting names will drop down to our selection. View is forming up at Club land that top 8 v high quality. Next 20 good but after than pretty thin. Usually in drafts like that you get some left fielders.

Pity we don't have Pick 2!
But we don't.

We likely have a good haul anyway, Quaynor, Kelly, mystery player, with Beams, Irish I and Irish II,
maybe Atu. Seems ok. Even Roughead as depth is part of the haul.

Typing 14 words was hardly energy sapping. If there is to be panic, let it be now, as the end to which you refer is only a matter of hours away.
We'll get both boys anyway.
Kelly our long term key back (like daddy but more skilled and athletic)
Quaynor.

It's happening regardless of speculation.

If you recall Craig Kelly, and Will got to his levels, we'd be thrilled I reckon.
If Quaynor is a more skilled and smarter Lumumba we'd be very happy indeed.

Skilled and athletic, but can he knock people's teeth out (Ben Doolan) and relentlessly pinch opponents bodies? Does he have his dad's in your face (and mouth) aggression?

Perhaps not, but he'll have dads money... one day
