This could be the most open year for our first pick. Last year was a little bit similar. I remember we were linked with Brander and maybe Oscar Allen.
This year it looks like McHenry? I hope not, but wouldn't believe anything until it happens.
From the little i have seen of Phantoms this yr Stocker is the one most think we'll take.

Have all the posters freaking out at who we might take at our first pick stop to think of what we should get if RFC firmly believe they will get Hopper next year?

Seems to tick all boxes apart from possessions which seem to be a bit light on for a mid.
They do. 19 isn’t quite enough, but guys being touted top 10 are only going 22-23 touches. That saying “would rather 20 of player Y than 30 of player X”. Also our game style isn’t built on huge possession counts

I heard we were getting Brad Crouch and Scully this off season, but we didn't. So I'd prefer we draft as required, because nothing is ever a given when reading players in the future.

4. LUKE VALENTE

Norwood, midfielder, 18, 186cm, 80kg.

Captained SA to the AFL under-18s championship and is a high-volume player who is a composed ball-user in tight scenarios. He won 43 per cent of his possessions in a contested manner at the nationals but this didn’t impact his efficiency, recording an elite kicking efficiency (84 per cent). He rated elite for disposals (22.8), clearances (5.5) and score involvements (5.3) and above average for tackles (5). Named vice-captain of the All-Australian under-18 team and voted SA’s MVP.

Interesting article by Knightmare regarding inside mids potentially sliding in the draft.

"The belief within the industry is that clubs will continue paying a premium for speed, seeking speedy players and showing a growing hesitation to play or recruit slower ball-winners with the view that the rules in the AFL are shifting towards a more open style of play with fewer stoppages."

Also very interesting that CD has Ely Smith @ 21.

May not be much of a reach at all to consider him with our first pick.
