Maybe he is. But 18 other clubs have passed on him also so theres obviously been more to it than just high disposals
18 other clubs passed on O’Shea, Mullet, Garlett... etc... part of the skill of good recruiting is seeing what 18 others have not. Tom Stewart... etc

It has recently occurred to me that the Club’s re-build strategy is naive. Silvagni advocated it. Only one problem. He never had all the preferential draft picks he enjoyed when he was at GWS. The basis of this so called re-build is flimsy. It is not going to work.
It’s also depressing to watch our former players doing so well at other clubs. 2E won the game for Geelong after the siren tonight. Etc etc.

If the 2015 draft was re-run Clayton Oliver would be the no 1 pick. I’d have him any day instead of Weitering.
See opinions are like assholes.....everyone has one. You seriously saying oliver would be as good as he is now if he got drafted to carlton

So …. how as SOS bombed out so far? What high picks (that he had at GWS for example, extrapolated into picks he has had for CFC so far), have failed at CFC? Examples?

The rebuild is flimsy? Ok …. how so? Can you name another club that has cut as deep and as fast, ever, in the history of the game? What he and the club has undertaken is unprecedented ground. I would like to know your measuring stick?

How I see our starting 18 looking in 2019-2020:

FB: Plowman Jones/Macreadie Marchbank
HB: Docherty Weitering Williamson
C: Murphy E.Curnow Dow
HF: SPS C.Curnow O'Brien
FF: Pickett McKay Fisher

Jeez Jim, that team is so talented we don't need Cripps or even more than 15 players on the field.... ;)

Wouldn't surprise me at all. Oliver's really driven and has taken another step forward this year to becoming an elite midfielder. Didn't play championships in his draft year but still managed to finish the year strongly, won the TAC league BnF and surged forward in the draft rankings.

There's always exceptions to the rule - Cripps has proven that remarkably.

Yes he probably would be as good. He has the toughness and the mental attributes that elite players possess. I’m concerned that Weitering is too soft and introverted.

I'd luv 2 see crippa succeed somewhere else as sadly it will never be with us. We will still be stuck in bottom 3 in his late 20's the poor guy.

A lot of people on this board have suggested we will begin to rise in 2020, perhaps even pushing the 8. LMFAO over and over. We will still be spoon favourites in 2020.

I'd like to see you find success with another club too, off you go.

Yeah mate ,

And plenty of them get it wrong year after year after year.

Remember, it was only a few years ago a guy had to be an assistant coach before he got a call up.

17 other clubs passed him over . Excuse me while I take another hit.
I feel you have attitude going on with that reply. Why is that?

As Leigh Matthews has observed the concept of a fundamental re-build is fine in theory but extremely difficult to achieve in practice. I think you need lots of top end draft picks each year. That’s what GC and GWS had. Neither of them have won a premiership yet.
If we are in virtually the same position this time next year then there will be a revolution at Carlton. Board overthrown, senior coach sacked and many positions, including the list manager, under review.
I just feel very pessimistic about the future. Sorry but that’s how I see it.

Leigh Matthews also thinks SOS owns the club.

Let's appoint you. Clearly you got it all worked out... FMD
Be no point in appointing me. But just because I couldn’t hold the position it doesn’t follow that the club’s current strategy is a good one. Increasingly my intuition tells me that it is not going to work.
I hope I’m wrong.

So go back to our list 3 years ago.
What strategy would have have undertake?

Carlton had no choice but to institute a fundamental rebuild. The players we let go were not that good. IMO this year only robinson and thuoy make much of a difference. We were that bad off and on the field no quality players would not come. And yes no club in the history of the game has rebuilt from scratch...so we all better enjoy the grind, the slog and disappointments before we start to ascend towards exhilaration
