Connor Blakely primed to fill Lachie Neale’s shoes in Fremantle Dockers midfield, says Paul Hasleby

Fremantle youngster Connor Blakely is capable of stepping into the midfield hole left by gun clearance winner Lachie Neale next season, according to club great Paul Hasleby.

Hasleby also called for injury-troubled first-round draft pick Griffin Logue to be unleashed as a wingman as the Dockers look to reshape their midfield in the wake of Neale’s move to Brisbane.

Can we play Logue in the same role as Menegola ? I think he would be good out on the wing, and at the stopagges.

I'd like him to fully utilise his tank and athleticism and he is a nice kick too iirc. Whether Ross is that inventive we will have to wait and see. Menegola was turned into a tagger at Freo.

Free Agency doesn’t kick in until a player has done eight years service at a club.

So literally impossible for GWS to lose Free Agents until next season.
Which is what i meant by a different animal. They lost players this year due to 'salary cap pressure'.

The next challenge for them as a club is FA. Which is what i meant. They may have the $$$ but will the player leave for same amount but at home?

If Sandi is the difference between winning 14 games and winning 8 then Sandi will play.

Dictating stoppage play allows our forwards to work, if we lose the ruck then lose the stoppages we start on the back foot

Agree, it's always the same narrative each pre-season to prioritize youth over veterans but the second we stop winning it's pandemonium

I'm pretty sure Swans experimented with Logue as a mid at Colts level the year he was drafted.

Think he played 1 game as an inside mid and got like 30 contested possessions or something ridiculous. People are sleeping on logue, he was a top 10 pick for a reason

We want having to earn a spot in a successful team to become the norm for our young blokes. Balancing getting experience into the younger players will still need to be balanced against generating the confidence that comes from winning.

On field teaching and leadership will continue to be important which is why the likes of Ballas and Sandi might still get game time ahead of the kids. At the end of next year they'll both likely be gone but in the meantime they can pass on some valuable lessons to the younger blokes. And it will keep the melt thread alive :D.

Can't help but feel we didn't get the best out of Sheridan, but as he was, it's no great loss.
He was almost a very good player. Lacked a bit of footy nous, and a bit of mongrel to make it.

I expect due to our list situation, we just could not keep him on our list.

We will need to cut contracted players to use 4 draft picks.
