Speaking of this... I had the idea that the exercise bikes at health clubs should be used to generate electricity
Interesting you say this - I was once at a lecture where they talked about a study done where obese kids had to use an exercise bike to power their TV so couldn't watch without doing exercise. End result was the kids got sick of it and went outside to play...

Gambling addition is a massive problem in general.
But pokies are a small percentage of gambling market share, that's also shrinking. Pokies get the attention because it's infront of our eyes.

Online is a much worse problem. At least the pokies are in public, regulated and have trained staff. Plus the money they give to the government for anti gambling programs as an act of "goodwill".

Online gambling? Places will let you go as hard as you want and they are basically unaccountable. It's on us at all times if we so wish.. you don't need to physically go to a location to bet. Just pull ya phone out and away you go...

That's actually 100% wrong. $13B out of a total $24B, by far the highest segment.

My mother in law had a pokie addiction.

We realised it was the game aspect of the pokies rather than the actual winning and losing of money.

My wife got out her old SNES with Dr Mario and her mum loved it. We then got her other games and a tablet. She still played the pokies, but only as a social user ie after a dinner with us or friends she never went out on her own to play pokies.

For many it is no different to many others who sit on their phone screens mindlessly doing nothing playing stupid games. A bit like this place. Bigfooty can be an addiction.

The difference is for a lot of the older users of pokies they have no knowledge of these other form of games/entertainment so go to the pokies as it is accessible.

I think that would work for some people at least, as boredom combined with an addictive personality often leads to pathological gambling. Changing the addiction to a relatively harmless one may help.

Interesting, this just reiterates whats been explained to me previously about these things from family members.

Side discussion, a lot of these same trucks are also being used in mobile games as well. Not to mention things like slotomania.

Companies trying actively seeking out 'whales' to make money. See the recent loop box trend.
If that's not a form of gambling, I'll eat my hat.

When it comes to discussing parts of the game like tribunal hearings and the Gaff penalty, I wish football commentators took the time to understand what it is they’re commenting on

Gerard Whately on AFL360 apparently thought Gaff was a “smidge lucky” to only get 8 games

Why? Because Gaff’s lawyer talked about his client’s previously unblemished record and good character.

Whatley thinks he shouldn’t have done that because it might have made the tribunal annoyed and they might have given him more games, so they were lucky that didn’t happen:rolleyes:

Or maybe they weren’t lucky at all because referring to a previously good record is actually something the tribunal wants to hear in deciding penalty. So it was never going to irritate them into possibly giving a higher penalty

He also characterized it as “Pleading guilty and then mounting a defence..”

If you had the slightest insight into what you are being paid to comment on you wouldn’t have made such a basic error. He wasn’t mounting a defence. It’s called sentencing submissions. We plead guilty, here’s some relevant considerations the tribunal should take into account in deciding penalty

Happens all day everyday in criminal proceedings. The plea “in mitigation of penalty”

So no, they weren’t a smidge lucky on that basis, because what you are suggesting isn’t actually any basis at all

It’s the equivalent of someone who’s never played football saying “I think the player was a smidge lucky there that the umpire didn’t call it a goal instead of a point, because the ball came off the defender’s foot and went through the opposition goal...”

I think some commentators are a smidge lucky that they get paid to comment on things they have little or no knowledge about

Out of Watts, Motlop, Rockliff and Polec who would you prefer to keep? For me it would be Polec. So when I read Port supporters saying they would only pay Polec $500k I’ve got to laugh. All of those other players are on more than that.
Didn’t Polec leave Brisbane partly because of Voss?
Haven’t they just given Voss an extension ?

Plot thickens
Mmmmmm

I did go to the East Sydney Leagues Club for lunch today, thought I was in a Casino.

If you need a chuckle check out some of "Peck's" work in the "Lost faith...." thread down there.

Apparantly Kern was resting up SPP, Ollie and Rocky last week for a crack at beating WCE this week.

Although part of me thinks that is exactly what Port would do. Thinking they could beat us with minimal input from those three.

He's just saying that cause Rockliff came out and said they buggered up their rotations. Rockliff, Wines and SPP all had the lowest ToG for the game with 73 minutes for Wines, 79 for Rockliff and 82 minutes for SPP. Our lowest was CEY with 83 minutes and guys like Sloane was at 105 and Gibbs was on 99. That's because we rotate those guys forward a lot now.

We won because Gov and Dougie were injured and couldn’t run into each other in the final minute.
