Here, I'll translate.

SPPSPSSP has been dropped because he's been playing like shit. He's a lazy front runner who doesn't do much other than puff out his chest and pretend he's tuff.
Watching him at the game, he seemed more interested in trying to physically intimidate Crouch than actually play football. Crouch didn't seem to give much of a care.

SPP has some of the worst disposal by foot you will see. Seems to clanger it forward most the time rather than lower his head and look for the right option. He was one of the key factors to us winning the showdown.

Gambling addition is a massive problem in general.
But pokies are a small percentage of gambling market share, that's also shrinking. Pokies get the attention because it's infront of our eyes.

Online is a much worse problem. At least the pokies are in public, regulated and have trained staff. Plus the money they give to the government for anti gambling programs as an act of "goodwill".

Online gambling? Places will let you go as hard as you want and they are basically unaccountable. It's on us at all times if we so wish.. you don't need to physically go to a location to bet. Just pull ya phone out and away you go...
Pokies are not a small percentage of the gambling market share. They account for the lion’s share of Australian gambling expenditure.

https://responsiblegambling.vic.gov...atest-edition-australian-gambling-statistics/

$23.6b spent on gambling in Australia in 2015-16.

$12b spent on poker machines, compared to $2.9b on horse, harness and greyhound racing and $0.9b on sports betting. Casinos are $5.2b and lotteries account for $1.9b.

So over half of the total gambling losses were from poker machines. When you look at it from a turnover perspective it’s even more heavily skewed in favour of poker machines compared to other forms of gambling.

Online gambling (and online sports betting) is a very fast growing segment of the gambling market, but it is still only small compared to poker machines.

Illegal online gambling is also a problem, but that generally involves casino games, like poker, blackjack and roulette, rather than sports betting.

Trust me, I’ve worked in the gambling space for the last 3 years, dealing with those stats on a regular basis.

As of 2015-16 (latest statistics). Pokies are $12B of $24B in gambling losses (hence revenue) in Australia. Sports betting of any kind is <$1B, but the biggest growth industry.

Overall turnover is even more jarring; $142BN goes through pokie machines every year compared to $<10BN in all forms of sports betting.

Just got to this post. You basically said what I did, but beat me by about a day! :D

Interesting, that's higher than I was lead to believe.

I see nothing referencing online specifically there tho. Id like to know exactly how those figures came about. "Sports betting" seems vauge.

For example do those statistics include online poker run by countries outside of Australia? I doubt it. It's also a lot more common than people know about.

You seem to think I'm defending pokies here. I hate the bloody things.

But you need to think of the entire picture. Remove all the pokies tomorrow and what happens?
Are people automatically cured? No
Is gambling addiction going to go away? No
Where does funding for anti gambling programs come from?
How do people with a gambling problem get found out? When they become homeless?

Don't forget, people will lose jobs. There are plenty of business that wouldn't exist without them. Good or bad those business provide jobs for people.

Should we, long term, have businesses that rely on pokies? No. But if we take them away tomorrow that's alot of pain for a lot of people, and what good have we really done?

Should pokies be slowly phased out while solutions to these problems get sorted out? Absolutely.
The figures are provided by the various state governments.

They don’t break down online vs in person betting. However, it is illegal to offer poker machines or casino games online in Australia. You can only bet on sports, horse, harness and greyhound racing online in Australia.

So any online betting would be less than $3.8b (actually less than $2.9b as at least $0.9b is listed as on-course bookmakers and on-course tote).

Sports betting isn’t vague at all. It is bets placed on sports, besides bets on horse, harness and greyhound racing.

The stats only include Australian websites as it is actually illegal for websites outside of Australia to offer gambling services to Australian customers. There are no official figures on what the turnover through illegal offshore gambling operators is. As I said in a previous post though, they tend to be casino games more than sports betting.

Gillard started the process and the hotels association launched a massive and brutal campaign against her. The next election was very close and had they not used thier profits against a responsible government. Things would be different.

We never would of got abbott
Gambling is a state power, not a Commonwealth power. So I’m not sure the feds could have banned poker machines by themselves. They would have had to get the states to agree to it.

Watched that and thought. Didn’t Cyril retire mid contract.
Cheap way of getting a player or will he have to nominate for draft.
He’s only 28 apparently.

And Kornes says he's the next Dusty Martin. The only similarities they have is the physicality they play with, actual skills wise they are polar opposites.

One of the more stupid player comparisons I have read by Kornes.

Martin is absolutely elite of both feet, is more agile, quicker and a better forward than SPP who is only good at turning it over and faux tough guy bullshit. They are polar opposites.

SPP dropped.

For such a physical player, Martin has such fantastic touch with his kicks. Can place a kick gently in front of his leading forwards instead of trying to blast it through them, even at full pace. It really is a joy to watch.
