Yeah let's just ignore him and sign all those big body mids that want to come to us then.

Oh wait.

Sigh.

I have my doubts. He has not played a full season in 2 years. In that time he has played 11. Had one good game and the rest were so so. Sorry I have doubts on a player coming back off long term injury and not addressing major list gaps prior.

Sorry to have an opinion on it.

Heeney? Reid?

Must mean Papley is gone 100%
Heeney isn't a key forward.

Reid is good except for the half of the season he goes missing. He's a KPF that kicked 28 goals from 22 games this season. We simply need better than that.
Because this is Dodoro you think it will just be pick 5?
We'll find out. People are acting like we've already given up 5, 9 and our first next year lol.

We do? Kennedy has been legendary, but past his prime once 2020 rolls around, Parker is not a #1 mid, he needs 1 or two other ahead of him, jones is gone.
Hewitt, heeney (& mills?) Are emerging, but that group are not top 5 in the league. I don't even know how many midfield are ahead of them... but there are a few
If we use a midfield group of 5 (your sizing - Kennedy, Parker, Hewett, Heeney, Mills) it would be interesting to see how they are rated relative to these groups

Crouch, Crouch, Sloane, Atkins, whoever

Neale, Lyons, McCluggage, Zorko, Berry

Cripps, Murphy, Walsh, Curnow, Petrevski-Seton

Treloar, Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Beams, Adams

Merrett, Heppell, Shiel, Zaharakis, Parish

Fyfe, Langdon, Mundy, Conca, Tucker

Kelly, Taranto, Ward, Coniglio, Hopper

Dangerfield, Duncan, Selwood, Ablett, Guthrie

Swallow, Fiorini, Miller, Weller, Brodie (I suggest this is the worst by some margin)

Mitchell, O'Meara, Worpel, Shiels, Smith

Oliver, Harmes, Brayshaw, Viney, Jones

Cunnington, Higgins, Dumont, Polec, Ziebell

Boak, Rockliff, Wines, Gray, Powell-Pepper

Martin, Prestia, Edwards, Cotchin, Edwards

Ross, Hannebery, Billings, Dunstan, Steele

Kelly, Gaff, Shuey, Sheed, Yeo

Macrae, Dunkley, Bontempelli, Hunter, Liberatore

There's a clear top batch IMO - bolded. Sydney's would be in the bottom bracket

So what do you think of the Daniher trade?

When did I say you couldn't have an opinion? What a weirdly sooky post.

You can have your opinion, but it's getting a bit tiresome reading people clamoring on about big bodied mids as if our list managers can go "yep, we want this bloke to improve our midfield" and it will magically happen.

you think essendon will hold on to a guy whos publically said he wants out

Some of us have been saying hold onto the Papsmear.

Think trade will be

5 + 25 for Daniher and Essendons second rounder next year.

Sorry, I can't find the article. It was in the context of him taking time away from football to decide what he wanted. It was in the last 2 weeks, but there've been a lot of articles. It concerned me more than his osteitis pubis. Still, it was Melbourne media.

fair enough , guess his mentor said change your scene

Personally don't think Collingwood should be bolded. Treloar and Pendles are bloody good, but Sidebottom appears past his best, Beams has way too many problems, and Adams is rarely fit, and a butcher when he is fit. Brisbane's midfield is better IMO, but that's just me being pedantic.

Wait you don't rate Reid? 😂

Backing the club in on this one, think we have done our homework.

forget what i rate reid and being nice, hes a more a versatile swing man and would also potentially benefit massively if bud and daniher are there

Yep its totally up for discussion, I agree that Brisbane's midfield is really good and I've probably underrated them a bit there. GWS, the Bulldogs, and West Coast look incredible for next year. Kelly boosts the Eagles massively, GWS welcome back Ward and have huge depth, and the Bulldogs are young and already have several stars in that group

Yep, Reid would be an incredibly handy third forward with all the defenders hanging off Buddy and Daniher. Problem is he struggles to assert himself as a number one forward.

I'd normally say you are right, but in this case a player has clearly indicated he wants out. If they don't trade, they are left with a disenchanted player who they have to pay big bucks to who could easily underperform or "re-injure" himself and miss most of the season. Essendon I feel would take Pick 5 in a heartbeat.

I would prefer us to give up 9 if we have it, and I would hope that we are going with the line of, you want to be here, you are under a cloud injury wise, you get slightly above the average wage nothing more.

Absolutely the highlight of the 2019 year for the Swans, miles ahead of anything else
This is the way I see it. We can be pessimistic about on-field success all we like, but we look likely to sign a generational key forward. Hard not to be bloody excited about that and the prospect of Daniher and Buddy in the same forward line.

We can worry about the on-field part if nothing has changed by the start of next season.

Do we really want to force him to stay?

If we can't get adequately compensated for a bloke who recently committed until 2023 with HIS signature, then even the kind hearted & caring soul in me says toughen up Paps, as you are only one hour away from Melbourne by plane & it would take longer to get from your proposed home in Carlton to Bunyip then it would from Sydney to Melbourne. Sorry RUNSV but I cannot agree with you on this occasion.

When he was bypassed by Carlton & the other 9 Vic teams in the draft, it wasn't until we took him with pick 14 in the rookie draft that he had this chance to become an AFL player but now the sob story which just 100% a money move.

This was the discussion on Fox between King & Montagna.

"As for Papley, it’s expected Sydney will ask Carlton for its first draft selection (Pick 9) in exchange.
But 287-game St Kilda champion Leigh Montagna said he had “question marks” over the two targets, in particular Papley, who’s reportedly looking at a five-year deal worth around $600,000 to $700,000 per season.
Montagna said he wouldn’t “give up the farm” for Martin and, especially, Papley."

Now if Carlton truly & honestly believe Paps is worth that then they need to pay & we need to force him to stay because it's not about his girl.
If then he is unhappy after two years with us & hasn't played well for us to keep up that ludicrous value Carlton have put on his head, then he only penalises himself. Revisit again every year until a Vic club is prepared to give us the overs we are chasing for a very good contracted player.
I'd start with Weitering, as I've pointed out before & torch Carlton gradually from there.

He is a Sydney Swans Football club asset. We must force his hand otherwise the other players on our list will be watching with interest if we are to nice on this occasion. We had no bargaining power with Mitchell but now even with a 4 year deal some people still want us to be nice.

Here's your choice Tom for the next 4 years.
a) AFL footballer for the Sydney Swans where you are in the leadership group & whom your Grandads both played for.
b) Watching Nick Newman play for Carlton on the sidelines because we won't trade you.

I for once as a supporter would love to see (b), my club stick it to a player one of these days instead of just folding.
I could cope more with that than watching him tear us new A-holes in the opposition's colours, when he should be playing for us being a long term contracted player.

That sounds good but personally I’d like the Swans to keep a 1st round pick (Papley?). I hope they play hardball for once and the angle should be ‘hey Dodoro, Daniher doesn’t want to play for your shit drug riddled and ultra pathetic club’!

Having Reid almost as an interceptor in defence would be a great win actually.

I really just don't understand. One of the top 5 most exciting players in the comp wants to come to us, and people are cracking the sads before the deal has even been done.
