I'll be honest, I don't want Daniher his injury record over the last two years really concerns me. Was listening to an interview with Peter Larkins specifically about Joe's injury and I'd hate to be handing over pick 5.

Yes I know what you say is true and I am head cheer leader of the "I trust the club implicitly" club, but it just reeeeeeeeally worries me for some reason.
Fair enough mate. At the end of the day not much we can do, so I'd recommend doing what I'm doing and just visualising Heeney to Buddy to Daniher, and kicking up a stink when it goes wrong if it goes wrong. ;)

Larkins was speaking with authority on having reviewed Danihers medical records when he made his comments?

it is kind of funny that richmond only got pick 39 for ellis.

AFL really is just a bunch of union bosses in the chinese restaurant around the lazy susan.
Essentially it was the right decision in the end. There is no formula for priority pick positions. They just make it up. Generally speaking the lower the club the more generous they are. The pick 2 that Melbourne got for Frawley comes to mind.

I'd say he sounded impartial and he is a medical expert afterall. It's good analysis and there is a cause for concern based on the fact Daniher has barely played for two years. I value his opinion in the media over whatever any other nuffie is going to come up with.

Overheard in a Carlton pub:

N.Newman: “mate, come to Carlton, they’re desperate and will pay heaps”

T.Papley: “can’t mate, I just signed for 4 more years”

N.Newman: “don’t worry mate, just tell ‘em you miss your mum, Harls always buys that family stuff”

T.Papley: “mate, you’re a genius”

Who do we have as a current realistic Buddy replacement
I know you mentioned him as a mid replacement, but Blakey is going to be an awesome CHF if he's played there IMO.

That was kind of my point. I don't care that ellis went for 39 ... the point is they just make it up.

I understand how the formula works (with melbourne getting frawley for pick 2 or 3 or whatever it was). But do you seriously think if a gold coast player left on 600k per year, they would be given an end of second round pick?

Motlop went for 19 so gold coast could get a good pick for ablett.

The AFL just decides on the outcome they want, and then fits in with their invented rules.

and then they patronize everyone with their logic about how they reached the outcome that they had already worked out in the first place.

Dodo is going to think that we are trading papley and is going to demand Carlton’s first pick which isn’t ours until the last hour of trade period!!! ffs.

Just imagine buddy and daniher in the same forward line

In theory it is a powerful prospect. Problem is injuries, and even if they both get on the park at the same time we need a midfield capable of getting the ball up there.

Also with Buddy, Reid, Daniher, Blakey and god knows who else our forward line is not going to be applying much defensive pressure.

he hasn't played for 2 years! and prior to that had played 1 year worthy of a top ten pick in a trade - and essendon are going to demand (and we will probably give them) two top 10 picks.

And we could possibly get him for nothing next year. This is complete madness.

Yes of course, we could give up those picks and he could come to sydney and be awesome, and we will be way better than expected and it could be a great trade.

But all the smart percentages say just wait a year.
That would be the ideal scenario, allowing us to keep the high picks...but swans would also understand the downside of waiting out another year.

Swans may or may not know much more about his OP than what's available to essendon, but appear willing to take a calculated risk. As long as the trade itself, and the contract length/amount is risk-adjusted (incentives based/predetermined benchmarks etc etc) for what we know of his body and that daniher wants sydney's lifestyle as much as swans want him, then i suspect it makes sense for swans to pursue the trade now.

But who knows with dons, angst could go on until end of trade period...and then some...

Don't worry, this whole story started when he was spotted getting the all clear from a Harley Street specialist.

I'm pumped at the prospect, but I don't think we can part with pick 5 for a bloke under such an injury/mental cloud.

Get 9 for Paps and package it with 25 or Reid if he's happy to go.

Should be sufficient.

Also unclear on what the club has done recently to deserve the benefit of doubt here?

Mitchell squeezed out
Horse extended
Papley and Jones want out
Picked up Thurlow and Clarke last trade period

All of these things happened within easily the most successful period that this club has ever had, a couple of premierships, three more Grand Final appearances, only missing the finals twice in a 17 year period.

Do you think that happens by accident?

Mistakes get made, all clubs make them. But so many things have to have been done right for us to have been so good for so long.

If you doubt the club because a couple of fringe player trades and some Victorians wanting to go back home... well, go for it, but it all looks pretty petty.
