id be as excited as anyone to get daniher .... for the right price (and i dont mean his contract).

but where our current list is vs what it will cost to give up daniher.

If I had a pros and cons column, i would have about 10 cons and 1 pro (daniher could be really good).

We have Rowbottom, Gulden, Blakey and Campbell poised to be replacements for our current midfield crop. It's also much easier to draft gun midfielders.

Who do we have as a current realistic Buddy replacement? Trading in gun key forwards and going to the draft for midfielders is sublime list management IMO. Especially when we're guaranteed two young gun midfielders next year. Sure, we have a midfield problem now, but if we ignore KPPs and just target midfielders because of it, we'll have 10 gun midfielders and bugger all KPPs in 5 years time.

How is Daniher a "generational talent"? He isn't. His reputation has been completely blown out of proportion.

Agree. He's a very good player, but he's no Buddy.
Buddy and GAJ are the only generational talents that I can think of ATM in my opinion, don't even have Fyfe or Dusty up there.

But maybe that's just cynical old me........

Once Buddy goes, there won't be another forward in the comp that can do some of the things that Daniher can do IMO.

Maybe Hipwood and Wright if they come good, but Daniher is a comfortably better player than both of them.

he hasn't played for 2 years! and prior to that had played 1 year worthy of a top ten pick in a trade - and essendon are going to demand (and we will probably give them) two top 10 picks.

And we could possibly get him for nothing next year. This is complete madness.

Yes of course, we could give up those picks and he could come to sydney and be awesome, and we will be way better than expected and it could be a great trade.

But all the smart percentages say just wait a year.
