You were complaining about list cloggers and not doing enough to keep a player who's played one game in however many seasons. You were taking random, contradictory potshots.

Not really. At this point we're actually paying nothing and potentially paying a dozen first round picks. Criticism over something that hasn't happened and hasn't even looked like happening so far is, again, random bitching, not holding the club to a high standard.
Ok let’s look at the facts.

We were one of the worst sides in the comp this season.

Our midfield was one of the worst going around and got beaten most weeks.

We have had two best 22 players who spend time in the midfield request to be traded.

We have clearly held discussions with JD about bringing him across.

So we are incurring losses to an already poor midfield and getting another forward who has a significant injury history, kicking issues and had one breakout season.

If we were a forward away from a flag then I could understand the risk, but I don’t believe we are close

Both are projected to be mid to late first round picks at this stage (could go in any direction in a year good or bad) so if we work off that we don't have enough points to match bids in the first round for both if we trade away our 1st round pick this year, with our remaining 3 picks alone.

So I don't see us trading away our 2020 1st Round Pick unless we were to receive a 2020 second round pick in return and got other future picks from other trades. The risk is too great.

Cant you go into points debt? I think for the sake of the play it would be worth it.

If our midfield is no good why wouldn’t you trade away our 4th and 6th best

Hannerbury ~ $800k
Rohan ~ $500k
Papley ~ $350k
Jones ~ $400k
McVeigh ~ $250k
Grundy ~ $350k
Smith ~ $300k
Jack ~ $400k

Total $3.35M

I've tried to take into consideration where each player was at in their career and when they last re-signed.

I think we would have some salary cap space available. But I don't think it would have been a large amount.

In its salary cap planning, the club would have factored in Hannebery/Rohan and who was likely to retire. And I think that allowed us to extend quite a few players this year on presumably higher contracts.

Papley and Jones leaving would free up some unexpected salary cap space. But I believe the club when they said that the retirements did not mean we had a lot of salary cap space. I think we will have to backend the contracts of our new signings which creates problems in future years.

We could go into deficit and use some points from our 2021 1st round pick (best to avoid this though).

Where have the club said that?

Maybe it was my misinterpretation of the quotes. I viewed it as just because we have several players retiring, we don't have all that salary cap space to spend. So downplaying expectations that we had a salary cap war chest to chase players with.

"There's things like salary cap we've got to be able to manage. Just because we have players exiting, it doesn't mean we're going to be extremely active.

"We're confident we've got some great young players and what we can add around them we'll look at that.

"We'd like to get a bit more experience here and there if we could, but it depends on what's available and what we can afford.

There is, but it moves our 2021 picks back until we have pay the points off. So if Campbell and Guiden are high enough picks we could in effect have no picks to work with in 2021 for draft or trading. We would be basically banning ourselves from recruiting that year. I'm not saying don't do it, I'm saying make sure we get as many points back in return if we do go down that path that it doesn't effect 2021.

I think that was just to put anyone off from thinking we were a chance of getting a big name.
