It's not my POV, but it makes sense from the club's perspective. They're a business at the end of the day, whether you like it or not.

This is a bit dramatic haha.

Not really. It gets pushed all the time, with our club especially.

'Ohh Buddy hasn't won a flag with Sydney, but think about how much merchandise they have sold'.

I couldn't care less about how many t-shirts the club has sold when discussing whether or not a player signing is a success.

'Sydney loves superstars'. Like our fans are brain dead morons who only recognise one player on the field.

It's a fact though. Big names bring sponsors, members, merch sales, and crowds. The club is a business, and the only measure or success internally isn't Premierships. In fact a Premiership in a season where we only have 30000 members sign-up probably wouldn't be seen as a success internally.

Football results being the only important factor of success is fairy tale stuff. It's a professional sport FFS.

I think the clubs like to say that superstars sell memberships, but that is only a tiny piece of the story. In reality, superstars sell sponsorships and that is how these commercial transactions are sometimes measured.
Maybe Buddy didn't bring a premiership, but he brought a lot of the corporate money in. Having said that, Buddy's profile reached outside of AFL awareness because of his partner, so there was a lot more to 'sell' to the public (and therefore sponsorship). Unfortunately, I don't think Joe has the same profile so he simply won't transcend the AFL boundaries and into the local landscape like Buddy did.
Joe isn't a 'personality' and his recruitment will only make sense on the field, rather than off it. Buddy was a rare player who helped the club in both areas.

Anything think Callum Sinclair might be feeling the winds of change? If there is one player in the comp that might derail his move to second ruck / tall forward (assuming Naismith fit) it would be Daniher

Would Bombers be interested in him?

Would Swans consider sacrificing him?

Would Sinkers himself maybe see the writing on the wall and put his hand up?

I reckon there's more chance of the club seeing if Essendon is interested in Sam Reid than Sinclair.

With a heavy heart I would be prepared to give them Knoll... since you know we “stole” him from them in the mid season draft.

;)

(*i think would need to be upgraded to senior list ala Murray)

Not after playing every game this season. Wonder if Daniher fans are aware of how many ganes he played this year due to OP.
Crouch shows that you can recover from it if managed correctly. Essendon rushed him back which is largely what kept him out for so long.

Joe's older brother retired because of it, only managed five games in four seasons.

I find it equally sad watching people fawn all over the club blindly.

Don’t see the issue with holding the club to a high standard.
Constant analysis-free complaining and double standards in what you bitch about isn't "holding the club to a high standard", it's wanting to complain and feel justified about it.

In the space of two post you complained about Thurlow and Clarke being picked up then Darcy Cameron being let go.

I want to see Sinclair as a second ruckman, and spend majority of his time up forward. I think that is his best role, and I think he is a much better forward than most people give him credit for.

I know, but I don't think the two are that comparable. There was less to gain for Darcy to continue rehabbing, whereas Joe has $800k a season on the line and is a star of the comp at his best. Medicos will also have Darcy to consider with Joe's rehab. The club obviously thinks they can get him right and I'm willing to back them in.

Sinkers is a great team man and a really hard worker.. but Reid as that tall forward / 2nd ruck would be my preference

Daniher, Crouch, Bennell, Taylor, Sier. Good off season.

I don't understand how we will fit them into the salary cap. I think Crouch and Daniher will be on high wages and Sier on Medium. Bennell and Taylor will be relatively cheap.

We must be giving them long term heavily backended contracts. Which will affect our ability to resign our best young players in a few years time when they hit their peak.

That is my main concern with this trading spree. We will have to overpay to bring in any highly sought-after players. So won't have much salary cap space to retain players we have.
