can someone ELI5 how this points/bidding system works?

if the Saints give us 12 and 13 and the Henry bid comes in at say 11, what happens to those picks?

That is indeed the worst outcome for us as pick 12 moves one step forward and we get no advantage at all out of the 20% discount.

incidentally pick 10 (which will push back to 11 after Green bid for GWS) is with Port and they are the club that concerns me with Henry.

Honestly, unless we're lining up other trades I'd hope Bell is on the next plane home. His job is done as far as Hill is concerned. Impetus is on St. Kilda to come up with suitable value.

Spot on about the glaring hypocrisy though. Geelong were cannonized, we've been fired at with cannons for exactly the same thing.

Surely we are still going to bring in one of Menadue/Acres/McIntosh/Robertson etc.?

I'd opt out on dealing for Acres based on the bad faith St. Kilda have negotiated in unless he specifically names us and I'm personally not a fan of Robertson (as someone already said: We have Banfield who currently isn't getting a game, why trade for a slightly worse and older version?)

Sorry for the intrusion just wanted to say well done to Bell and Freo for not buckling to media pressure from Barrett and the other pricktorians who think you should let Hill go back to Melbourne despite being contracted. If its alright for Geelong to hold Kelly to his contract when he obviously wanted to return to WA, then its fair game WA teams do the same if they are not offered market value for gun players.

I think what f**ked St Kilda’s plans is no interest in Newnes and/or Acres. That would’ve been two other second rounders they were planning on using to get other deals done (Howard and Jones) and since that couldn’t come to fruition, they had to pick 6.

Stay strong Belly, keep Hill or get two first rounders.

On the Henry thing...it is important I think to stick with where we might pick him normally as rated among our needs and priority of picks. If we are focused on saving a few hundreds points into a pick selection etc it may well stuff up key targets. If he is rated by others as say 7-10 and we rate him say 15 to 20...then I'm not sure we would bother matching a bid if it came in at between 7-10.

Also anyone remember the response to this trade? I distinctly remember herald sun articles about how Freo had "infuriated" Melbourne with the trade, and how disgusting it was that they'd courted Hogan and then "turned their back on him" by splitting pick 6, which Melbourne assumed would be included in the trade. The media hypocrisy is incredible.

The Saints supporters very up and about about being the destination club . But let's face it the only reason for that is they are offering more $$$$ than anybody else is willing to pay , Not for any other reason.
They have painted themselves into a corner they have 4 players wanting in and 2 wanting out and until one or both of the outs is sorted they can't do anything with the ins.
Last story i heard is that 18 is off the table regarding the current 4 they are chasing . Which just makes it harder to see how they get all 4 to their club.
