I don’t think Henry gets a bid until after 15. Missed the back end of the season, didn’t do the combine (although he did say he had interviews with six clubs) and is from WA. Vic clubs probably focus on Vic talent and I can’t see any of the clubs with picks earlier than us using such a high pick on a small forward.

There actually seems to be a bit of solidarity with Eagles fans about the very transparent narrative being pushed by sections of the media, and how Essendon and Freo are literally doing the exact same thing this trade period, but Essendon are being portrayed as the heroes and Freo are being portrayed as the villains

The Saints supporters very up and about about being the destination club . But let's face it the only reason for that is they are offering more $$$$ than anybody else is willing to pay , Not for any other reason.
They have painted themselves into a corner they have 4 players wanting in and 2 wanting out and until one or both of the outs is sorted they can't do anything with the ins.
Last story i heard is that 18 is off the table regarding the current 4 they are chasing . Which just makes it harder to see how they get all 4 to their club.

Any four period teams must use 2 first round picks.

The Saints will offer the Suns 2020 and 2021 first round picks.

The maximum offer for Hill will be pick 12 and 2020 second round.

Dont believe Morris, he lied. Everyone since then has said it was 6 and a future 3rd. The future 3rd is garbage, future picks dont have much value this year.

Saints also basically couldnt get all their deals done without breaking up 6 so its all very convenient for a media beat-up and some good PR for Saints

I'm sure it started as two first round picks with a 2nd going back from us - like all the other guys getting 900k a year and traded.

Once Howard nominated Saints they knew they had to break up 6 so went to us and said we are operating under a timeline, are you going to accept 6 and a future 3rd or not, to which Bell said, we cant accept that, we need a bit more.

They then gave Morris a call to tell him what to write-up when they do a pick swap with GWS

It's basically tradeweek tradition to start unreasonably high then negotiate down. Ultimately Bell was reluctant to let Hill go this year and the Saints clearly aren't fussed about getting him right now either. I'm pretty comfortable for Freo to be a pain in the ass when other clubs poach our contracted players.

Duffield also came out today and said we were under the assumption we were close to working out a deal with the Saints went and broke up the pick.

The hypocrisy is even more embarrassing given the Swans come right after St Kilda. Always those pesky interstate clubs stopping deals from happening.

then I'm surprised they didn't exit after 30 seconds, given the ridiculousness of Freo's demands.

Sydney Swans
If you don't engage properly with Carlton and its pick nine over Papley ...
then big Joe will stay in limbo.

Sometimes starting unreasonably high will come back to bite you. If we trade Hill out for anything less that two firsts we have really stuffed up. I am all in on keeping him.

If we only lose Langdon from B22, then that's not too bad really, particularly if we keep strongest team on park for a change

Saints didn’t have a second this year. It was next years they offered, so to us, it was just Brad Hill for pick 6. That’s a horrible deal.

Should also be noted that generally speaking academy players that high in the draft tend to slide a few picks lower than they could otherwise be taken. Wouldn’t surprise me if he gets taken more 15-20 than 10-15

But they couldn’t table that offer because they don’t have those picks. After we met, they took it upon themselves to split pick 6, that’s their fault, not ours. We didn’t tell them to do that.

it honestly amazes me that the same people who praise Essendon for being difficult about Daniher and Geelong about Kelly last year have such an issue with us wanting to keep a player who’s contracted for 2 more seasons. calling out Barrett and co on their BS is always welcome here.
