Clearly behind Marshall who is the only elite player on our list ATM.

Hanners has a pretty good resume as well. I don't think its crazy to say Hill would be around the mark of the players mentioned, he is easily better than Steele at the moment but would be even with Billings and Gresham IMO.

Around the mark*

Even with a hypothetical trade with Geelong they can't offer what Hill wouldn't be worth next year anyway. I'm keen for Bell to drop all talks for Hill at this point unless somebody else comes to us with a ridiculous offer tbh.

Yep I agree.
We should be done with the brad hill trade talk.
It’s over
St Kilda lose and lose again

We should IMO now see if we can trade our future first for another this year.
-If brad still wants to go next year he’s trade value will replace it and some ,then

If we can get two first round picks for Hill from Geelong I'd be happy. He wanted a trade out last year and requested one this year, so it's unlikely he changes his mind. And we know we won't get all that much for him next year because the draft is compromised.

If we can swing two talented WA boys (say Robertson and Sharp) who actually want to be at Freo and will play for us for the better parts of their AFL careers then that's a win in my book, and probably our best chance to make an opportunity out of certainly losing Hill.

God I hope not
If Menagola is the key we have really mucked this up. Steak knives like Blake Acres is fine but the key would still be an early first (5-10) and a late first/early second (17-21) or two mid range firsts (two of 12-14).

If that second pick in scenario 1 is 23-27) then yes Acres or Menagola as steak knives to bring the worth up to a late first.

On what basis are we shelving talks with St K?

Just need to give them time, they have to square away Bruce, Stevens - out and Jones, Howard, Ryder - in.

Pretty obvious they needed more currency than pick 6, I’m guessing we wouldn’t send back a pick in the 20’s ...so they’ve gone route B ...split the pick and try and make up the difference for Hill.

I’ve seen nothing from either club to indicate that they aren’t working together to do a deal.

Just have to hope St K can knock over some of the other deals by Tuesday so they actually know what they can reasonably offer.

True, but the onus was really on the the Saints to have the Hill deal squared away before all their other trades.

Though it would be amusing to see those who've been cutting themselves for years over us letting him go start to realise he's actually not that good.
haha yeah I actually thought about that when I posted it.

Of all the drafting /trade blunders you could highlight as poor list management by us (and I’ve been very vocal on a lot myself) menangola is NOT one of them!!.

I’m constantly bewildered by people who think that it was indeed an error by us.

Not if we’re eying the Bruce or Stevens compo as part of it.

I think what shits me the most about the trade situation is that blind freddy can see that as soon as Howard nom'd the Saints, there is no way they could do the trades without splitting 6. There is sure as hell no way they could get the trades through with if gave 6 and a future 2nd without getting something significant back - likely our 2nd this year.

One second of analysis by a reporter and you'd come to this conclusion but that's too hard. I mean, trade radio is filled with dead air for 90% of the day. Is it too much to ask for some analysis on the trade situation.

When I first heard Menegola might be coming back I thought it sounded like a good idea, after 5 seconds of thought, I couldnt be more against it.

We will be slower than Melbourne last year with Menegola in the side, its really really not a good move and I'm surprised this is even being thought of

I’m still reading articles daily that are trying to paint Freo in a bad light regarding the B.Hill trade and they state that Freo was offered #6 and a future 2nd round (that SK proxy Morris went even further than that).
While others who are less desperate to report a one sided story say Freo was offered #6 and a future 3rd round.
Now as much as this may sound a petty whinge by me, it is absolute proof that the AFL media often don’t have facts and the story as they report it, is the narrative they want to tell.

Just tell me the truth and facts or don’t tell me anything at all ... because like with The West newspaper, I’ll pretty soon simply choose to stop paying any attention.

And there in lies the problem

True - would of expected at least 1 quick trade following the split...most likely Howard/Ryder for 18. That would have given me greater confidence that this was part of a greater targeted St Kilda plan.

The St K trade team could come out of this as stars if they get all their targets and don't burn next year's first rounder.
