Ash, Stephens, Henry
Not enough love for Robertson. Walsh went #1 and Deven has him covered. Need to look long term. I’m still a firm believer that the game is won in the midfield as long as there are players front of Centre that can score goals. We also need to release Walters so he can play forward. Aish and acres can play the wings so happy to give up on Stephens if we can land Robbo

I just can't get behind the idea that Adelaide will take McAsey. I know their fans are talking themselves into it being a good idea, but it has to be midfield at their pick.

They need a future key defender and midfield pace, but you would think they would be into Gould in a big way.
Maybe Fogerty can go down back?
Or wait for Hately, poach Cox?

Robertson would be good as well.

We need more players are quick on the outside with great skills.

Chris, I respect your opinion but you are wrong here, Adelaide are clearly better off taking McAsey at their pick. He is on my board as number 1 and Adelaide would be mad not to take him. Couldnt possibly justify taking Stephens before (checks the draft board) pick 8

I think we'd be silly not to go with Robertson at 7 (and try to pick up Stephens at 10, or Henry if the bid comes). If Adelaide want Stephens and was their reason for dropping to 6, we won't get him anyway. But, if still available by 7, we have more chance of losing out on Robertson to another club trading up to Carlton's 8 (which is being proposed) than missing out on Stephens at that point. If Stephens is taken at 8 or 9 (less likely), then Sharp and others are still available. If still available at 10, take Stephens. All boxes ticked.

Please Freo don't put our top picks into half backs this year. We have so many players experienced in that role. We need to give Fyfe help, get Sonny out of the middle, and some running outside mids who can hit chests on leads or back themselves for goal. Robertson/Stephens/Henry/Sharp (and Taylor) all fill those roles and could get on the field in the next year or two potentially. An 18yo half back has little chance behind Ryan, Wilson, Aish, Logue, and all the others who have played through there inc. Cerra, Blakely, and Hill. Leave that maybe to next year. Our defense is actually one of our strengths atm but it means little if we can't kick any goals or get the ball to forwards who can.

All these possible scenarios are doing my head in. I feel like shutting myself off from footy for a week until after the draft.

Will be nice without the stress - and I also expect Belly to do the best he can no matter what the situation.

Like a drug addict saying he shouldnt have another hit just after doing it.

Ryan re-signing and Cerra seemingly happy are great news. Personally I love me some chat about youngsters but Ryan deal makes everything else just gravy.

Of course I hope we kill the upcoming draft but Ryan news takes the cake for mine.

I’ll be pumped with Henry and just someone with polish or dash, so either Young or Ash.

Whilst I rate Robertson I feel that from a list management perspective what you say misrepresents our list gaps.

For mine, clearly the major gaps are players with the combination of both outside run and skill, whether off half back, wing or half forward. Inside midfield options, young as some may be, are well covered in:

Fyfe,
Brayshaw,
Cerra,
Conca,
Blakely,
Valente
Acres

As well as Mundy and Walters for part time options.

But particularly for fast running high skilled wingmen and flankers....

Stephen Hill
Aish?
Switkowski???
Sturt?
Crowden???

Is a player like Lachie Ash with their combination of speed and skill a list need? Yes definitely. So is Dylan Stephens with his skillset. So is Henry. So is Jeremy Sharp. So is probably Young (I think his speed is decent enough, his kicking and decision making is fast and exquisite). All these players are essentially flank players at this stage, but they are absolutely the kind of talent and class + athleticism needed and indeed talked about by Longmuir.

Robertson is also very fast and not a dreadful kick and brings a range of other qualities as well, which kind of will balance up in that sordid task of assessing best available.

Despite some of the more pessimistic talk I think we will very likely see both Robertson and Stephens at our pick 7; despite simple geographic assumptions about Stephens (forgetting that he has lived mostly in Victoria) it has been rumoured for ages that Adelaide are just not that big om him and if there was a bigger talent around they would be seeking that. On the other hand it is reported that Carlton have put a bit of time into Stephens and not as much into Robertson, so it would not surprise me in that instance to see us to go Stephens at 7/8 over Robertson despite us apparently having told Robertson earlier that if he was at our first pick we would take him then, just simply because there is a higher probability that he would still be there at pick 10/11. The other risk factor there is whether a bid comes in for Henry.

So Blues might make a bid on Henry, what part of going to Freo don’t they understand?

The part where Freo fired a good mate and business partner of the Carlton official pulling the strings draft night.

Yeah, Freo were within their rights to do it and it might not be in the spirit of the contract but that's football so now can Carlton bid, knowing we will match and although it might not be in the spirit of the draft, that's football.

Overly dramatic there Tay

Word is that he’s also leaving/ pushed day after draft

I didn't even mention the part where Silvani is leaving after the draft and he and Lyon can sip coffee and talk about how it all came to an end.
Eat fish together don’t you mean.

Surely it’s more of a legacy from the original popped collars himself - Brad Lloyd

What goes around comes around

Some may have been negative about Robertson's kicking, certainly the rest of his game is very good and his kicking matches or better than others in the top ten.

But some interesting stats on mids kicking efficiency re the Robertson 52.9%, Serong 48%,Flanders 47.9, Anderson 50%, Rowell 62.9%, Schoenberg (inside gem) 63.4, Green 51.3, Bianco (another gem) 70.2 Maginniss 45%

The lower numbers for mids probably because of kicking from out of congestion? Other positions.......

Young 75% Ash 70.6 Rivers 69.8% edit: Gould 67.9% Ruscoe 73.6%
Sharp 60% Stephens 52.4% Day 79.5% edit: Taylor 53.6%
Henry na Weightman 55.9% Pickett 55.6%

Bergman 52.8% C Stephens na

If Young were somehow to slip to us at pick 7/8, I’d consider taking him before Stephens. Then hopefully we get to choose between Stephens and Robertson at pick 10/11 (or more probably, pick up whichever one was still available).
