Ok yea just looked it up. Do we have access to kids from a certain region?

For indigenous? Yeah real low population density area though in the eastern API lands. Us and Port got screwed out of the metro and Pt Lincoln.

For multicultural we have zones tied to Sturt (how we have Borlase), Centrals, Glenelg and North (we also have them for indigenous as well outside of the aforementioned)

You're wrong.
Its a very good deal for us and GWS are only doing it to avoid overpaying for Tom Green.

They're not doing it to avoid overpaying, they'd do it to take someone else at 4 then Tom Greene whenever a bid is placed so they potentially end up taking picks 4 & 5 home, go into deficit next season but since they have traded their first away at full value the deficit gets taken from their later picks. They'll probably have academy kids to take next year anyway so it won't hurt them.

It means GWS give themselves the best chance to get 2 elite players in, we give ourselves a good chance to get 3 role players.

I’d probably be the only person on here that actually fancies this trade. Pick 4 doesn’t guarantee a superstar player like some people are suggesting. The difference between 4 and 12 in this draft isn’t actually that big either. The top 20-30 in this draft is quite even except for Rowell and Anderson so even pick 18 will be decent.

Their 2020 first is a bit of an unknown could be anywhere from 10-18 you’d think. Our recent strike rate in the first round has been good too. Think Milera, Doedee, Gallucci and Fogarty.
Nup you’re not alone. I’m on board now with the 2020 first as well.

After all we’ll need something decent to replace MacKay...

If it's a pick exchange only, why on earth would we deal with GWS prior to draft night? Doing anything before comes with a great deal of risk for GWS in that Melbourne could bid for Green at 3.

However, if Melbourne pass on Green at 3, GWS would move heaven and earth to obtain our pick, knowing they could then select another top player and use any later picks to match a bid. Turning 14 and 17 into Green plus another top 5 pick would be pretty appealing for them.

Given this, I would be expecting some pretty serious steak knives coming our way, including 2020 picks.

Only way I would trade before is if it involved Hately or Bonar and was weighted heavily in our favour.

GWS actual have 12 and 18 - Geelong have 14/17
Agree with needing a few player. If we were turning 9 and 19 from last year into Hateley pick 12 and First next year that would be worth while - even if we gave 28 back

Pick 12, 18 and 15 (could end being 20) for 9, 19, 28..
Would anyone here trade 12 and 18 for 9 and 28?

No. Not worth the risk.
We need high end talent. Not mediocre, which is half the reason we are so crap right now.
We don't have access to the high end talent this year that's the point

Word is that GWS are paying $400k for Bonar next two years and are keen to get him off the books, not first 22 I guess. Hately will be the same but they want him; if we sign Nicks for coach though, surely Hately would be on the happy hour flight from Sydney that afternoon

The only thing that makes me think it's a good idea (2 things actually) is it will probably get us Stephens and Gould as it's right in their zone. Plus it adds a first rounder next year to add to 2 last year and 2 this.

I'd be deferring this one to Hamish.
