Doesn't Jones play primarily on the wing?
If we are investing heavily in Hill and already have Billings are the main wingman plus whoever else can rotate on them sparingly, it's hard to see a great need to get Jones.
Think he's been more in the midfield last couple of years? Seem to see him at the centre bounce a lot.. Could be wrong.

Think he could be used as a HB as well. Dashing pace. But wouldn't be giving up to much for him. Hasn't had a great year from all reports.

I still think we offload next year's first for King - we're gonna need to pay that for him in 12 months time anyway.

If we can split this years first into 2 picks in the teens, use one for Hill and keep one, use the Newnes compo for Jones, and use our 2020 first for King, and get some ruck depth as FA or DFA, then we win trade week. :thumbsu:
That would be lovely. If only... but has about a -1% of happening.

Jones plays a variety roles. Has mostly been a back flanker. Moved into the midfield earlier in the year where he was performing fairly well I think but has moved back to the flanks and the wing.

He's more of a utility than anything at the moment I think.

Just looked up his stats and it looks us if he got a run through centre bounce for the first 6 weeks of the season than has played primarily half back for the remained of the season. He seems a lot like a Newnes who has played through the middle for a few weeks.

Glad to hear there is plenty of interest in Newnes. Hopefully Gil helps us out and we end up with pick 24. If we get a Tomlinson though then we lose that pick. I think I'd prefer the pick tbh.

Acres is in interesting one. Can't see him being worth too much after this season but he is contracted.

Losing those two isn't going to help our depth though. Hill is an upgrade Newnes and hopefully we could find an upgrade on Acres. Jones would be right now IMO despite what some people might think.

I just hope we can end up with at least one decent draft pick when it's all done.

We would only get a 2nd compensation pick for Newnes. Newnes skills are not great but he turns up every week and has plenty of ticker. TBH I would rather keep him and grab Tomlinson, than what we would get in a shallow draft with the pick.

There may be other reasons however, we may need another pick to work some trades eg Jones.

Correct me if Im wrong but isnt their rules about trading out 2 years in a row draft picks at respective rounds eg 1st round 2018 & 1st round 2019?

We aren’t missing opportunity with Ben .
He knows the situation..once Stkilda drafted Max all over .

As for Timid ...well his credibility ended with Hird.
They didn’t express an opinion on king just said that Daniher must stay.

I’m simply putting it out there to those who question if we should chase bing or somehow believe he’ll be available for a bargain. He’s a gun and other clubs won’t hesitate to grab him should the chance present itself.

I turned the radio on this morning in the car which I don’t normally do I happened to catch a little of Garry Lyon, Tim Watson etc.

Two things of interest, Ben king is already a part of other clubs supporters fantasy trades, one guy wanted to send Daniher to Sydney and use the picks to grab Ben king. If and when he wants to come to us that will be our one and only chance baulk and we’ll miss our opportunity.

The other topic was port somehow have cap problems and they were talking about Lycett perhaps wanting out one year into a five year deal. He’s of little interest to us now with Marshall but that looks like an epic fail.
Get the Kings and every player in the country will want to come play with us 😃👍🏻

I don't think this year is a shallow draft from what I've been reading and hearing. It's more lack of quality at the top end. Seems very even after pick 2.

i find it funny how people are so eager to let Acres go for next to nothing yet think we should be expecting a decent return for Steven...
In my opinion if i would expect a far better return on trade out of Acres than i would Jack ...
Blake is younger, more scope to improve, physically ready to go and has no cloud over his mental health... Blake is also contracted .. im not against trading Blake if the offer is right but im dead against trading him for chump change.. we would be losing a young bloke who is in our best 22 who has a heap of potential left to reach that to me is a higher priority to keep or get a fair deal out of then an older guy who is physically out of shape at the moment, who has had personal issues preventing him playing week in week out who while still has a heap of good footy left in him realistically is likely to decline in the not too distant future ...

Jack is easily the better player over Blake but if we look long term i reckon if we trade them both we will look back at the Blake trade as the one we stuffed up not so much the Jack one ...

if other clubs have interest in Blake , great ... pay up or keep on walking

Everyone matures at different rates. Blake seems like someone that will be a late bloomer.

I don't mean physically... rather just that mental moment where it all clicks.

I hope he takes it.
pretty certain he will ... as i said GWS will give up an offer he will find acceptable and he will stay ... ive said it all along .. although i must admit i was doubting myself when the GWS first offer was reported to be considerably lower than Hawthorns but now its being reported its on par then im back to being confident he stays ... if i see his old man ill ask him but i reckon he will be very tight lipped about it ...

Possibly but how far does that depth go? Im no draft expert but I take an interest in it and after watching the under 18 champs the overall standard was a long way behind last years and past years. Some draft years are just weak and and I think this will be one with the odd exception. As an example there is no way we would have considered trading out of the 1st round last year, we actually tried to collect another high pick.

Its a mute point in any event as what ever we get for Newnes will be ontraded.

I reckon you'll still be saying this in 3 years time Trav...I can't wait any longer.

WCE have 22 & 34, Freo have 24 & 20 (Langdon)...

Newnes would only get Band 4 or Band 5 Compo. End of 2nd round, or after our 3rd. Approx. Pick 40 or 45

Yeah its a long way off last year's draft that's for sure, but I think that will end up being one of the best we've seen.

I think there'll be a few handy kids available in the second round. I doubt we end up with pick 5, but I'd be very surprised if we didn't make sure we at least had one or two picks in the top first couple of rounds.

Depends what his contract looks like I guess? He is obviously in our top 10 payments wise and as a like wise trade Steven Motlop got Geelong pick 19. So I think a round 2 pick for Newnes whether it be Grade 3 or 4 is still a reasonable assumption?

the point being is Steven realistically isnt going to get any better than he has been .. the strong liklyhood is he declines at a fair rate especially if he like some players struggles a bit to trim down and get back to optimum fitness, so for geelong realistically for them to chase Jack its for a 2 year stint to jag a flag or two ....
teams looking at Acres are looking at a player who with zero improvment is still best 22 most weeks but with a huge scope of improvment to be something really special.. they will be trading him in for a long term stint to play 150 games for their club as a key part of their team not just as the cream on top ... i get Saints fans are frustrated with him not reaching the perhaps unrealistic heights we hoped for him but he certainly isnt a dud .. and he certainly isnt clogging up a list spot on our team so to toss him away for junk would be a disaster for us and WCE or Freo would be laughing all the way if they got him for a half chewed chewy ...
he isnt the quality player that you toss in as steak knives
