The best clubs back themselves and their systems to get players like Harley performing and within the ethos of the club.

The tigers took a bloke who spent time in jail and turned him into a premiership player and the poster boy of taking a chance.

I want my club to recruit talent above the choir boys we have had running around in the last 6/7 years. If Bennell is fit then he should be someone we take. Simple.

In this game you don’t win anything without taking chances. A lot of fans believe had we taken cousins we would of had another flag...

I doubt that would happen exclusively to us. I don't buy in to the whole "media have it in for us" mentality. The fact is, over the years we have given them the ammunition ourselves. I reckon we are portrayed like a sexy club when things are going well.

From what i've heard Bennell isn't exactly settled.
If he came to the Saints, would Ryder and Hill be a good influence on him, or would he be a bad influence on the likes of Jake and Dan.

If we have to give someone a second chance Sam Murray would be my choice, much younger and has learnt from his mistake early on, unlike Harley.

How do you know he has learnt from his mistake , do you think he was just unlucky and it was a once of for him ? If you think that i suggest you do some more research on him , from what i have been told he had issues back in his Bush ranger days

Kid in their early 20s get drunk and get in fight at the pub. Wowee that kind of thing never happens in your white picket fence world?

yeah Webster did assault someone and if you go back and read my opinion on that you'd see it. but here's the thing on Webster he doesn't have a long running history including:
- being involved in a new years brawl
- assaulting someone
- being escorted on match day from the ground after interfering with the match day coaching WHILST UNDER THE INFLUENCE
- being escorted from a plane WHILST UNDER THE INFLUENCE
- photographed doing illicit substances
- not turning up to training due to being under the influence
- driving without a licence
- associating with criminal identities

massively different. gardiner spent a year at claremont, completely of the game and completely rebuilt his life.

he had no where near the rap sheet of bennell nor the issues he has.

gardiner also managed to string together a full season of footy pretty much. something bennell hasn't done in years.

I think what people overlook with Harley is that he has stared morality in the face this time. He was always going to get another gig after the suns. Right now he is a mistake away from being done and with a young kid to provide for and a good women keeping him on track I think he will be ok.

a lot of people do dumb things in their early 20s. Multiple that when you have 500k of disposable income and your famous.

i actually reckon it carries more risk now. he aint getting another contract after this one. so if he ****s up, he doesn't lose anything at all.

Sam Murray should be a priority. Not a positional need but would be a great depth player and is better than pick 80 or whatever. Great speed and is young and a proven afl standard player.

Sam Gray equally is worth having on the list and is a better player/durable than Dean Kent.

Harley Bennell I would much rather have on our list than Ed Phillips but I wouldn’t mind if we passed.
